Ok, so just wondering if anyone else has a 'No Kids' policy for their wedding. Since FH's friends and family have more than 20 children, and at least 10 under the age of 3, we decided to have a no kids allowed policy, even for family. We love our cousins, etc. but dont want our dance floor turning into a playpen or having to worry about kids falling down or spilling stuff on people.
My mom's cousin, who I call my aunt called my mom yesterday FUMING at her that my 9 yr old and 12 yr old cousins ( her children) aren't invited. She said that her friends think its absolutely awful that her children can't come and that they are 'going to be crushed'! She won't even bring the little girl to my shower because it will get her too excited for a wedding she cant go too and she ever made the point that 15 years ago, 'she accomodated for kids at her wedding'. Well this is NOT HER WEDDING, it's mine and im pissed that she started world war 3 with my mother over something that was my decision. The fight of course got personal and now she might not even come to the wedding. I called her last night to explain and she didn't pick up and wont call me back.
Is anyone else going through this? I don't think it's rude to not invite kids when the reception starts at 8:30Pm and goes until 1am.
ps. This same cousin's mother is not invited to my wedding either b/c she doesnt get along with my grandparents but that is a totally seperate issue. Because of it though, she is taking the kids thing personally! ERRRRRR
pps. Forgot to add that Im not even having a ringbearer or flowergirl. No kids means no one under the age of 17 ( FH's sis is 17).

but you hit the nail on the head NO ONE CORRECTED THEIR BEHAVIOR
that is ALL where the problems lie
Read again, I stated it wasn't corrected b/c to their family it wasn't inappropriate behavior. I am sure not going to correct them - not my kids.
oh no , i read it correctly their behavior was not corrected; therefore; they were ALLOWED to do what they were doing and their families saw it as acceptable

Ha, exactly! That's where much of the problem lies. What is tolerable to one person may be considered inappropriate to another. So the person doesn't correct their child and everyone else has to deal with it which is not fair. That needs to be taken into consideration when you are not at home with your children. They need to be taught respect and consideration for those around them. They will not know unless it is instilled in them. If they act out and behave a certain way without being corrected, they will not know any better and then that's not really the child's fault.

it depends on their ages Denise My sister is extremely 'scheduled' when it comes to my nephews and they are IN BED by 730 well, that is when my ceremony started; but they wre 5 and 7; not 3 years old
that is also why it is a special occassion lots of parents keep their kids up on new years even or christmas eve - which happens every year
a wedding is not a yearly event
again - JMO and as i stated yesterday; if you didnt grow up as a kid being a part of these types of family affairs, then i guess you are more inclined to not include them yourself and waking them up while they are sleeping - i mean its not a regularly occurring thing
special circumstances
its funny bc i grew up the opposite way...my parents took me to ALL events, and alot of events that ended very late. My mom always talks about how she took me to everything. I was extremely well behaved, but ill also say that i have tons of pics of me sleeping on chairs. I ask my mom now how come she took me to all these late things. So its funny bc i grew up going to all these events but feel differently about doing the same with my own kids. Not saying i wouldnt take them to anything, some events are ok.
I mean even at my house, growing up my parents always threw big parties, holidays were at our house and not just family but lots of friends. So my house growing up there were lots of parties that ended VERY late and i was around it.
I don't know why i feel differently about it, but looking back now i think that maybe i shouldn't have been up late at some of those parties. Infact growing up in my house i grew up with more parties than most kids did, my parents would even have tons of ppl over almost every weekend. For parties at home they would even have belly dancers come perform and many things similar to this. My parents owned a multi family home and we had this big section in one of the apartments with poker tables, black jack tables, i even had arcades in the home with poker and pac man.

Ha, belly dancers! Maybe since you were around so much of this is part of the reason you feel the way you do. Maybe it left an impression on you. Sometimes instead of being drawn to what you have been exposed to, you have the opposite response to it (is that coming out right...ha?).

its true it might be because of that. Not putting down my parents bc for them it was me being part of everything so i understand that but maybe some things i really shouldn't have been a part of. Like i said maybe my situation is a bit more extreme than others, most families dont have parties with 100 ppl in the home and belly dancers and professional gambling tables lol.
I dont mind kids when im at parties, infact whenever we go to a party even things such as bbq's, i dont sit with the adults, i end up playing with the kids the whole time. Even recently at a bbq a ton of kids came over our friends house we were at and the whole time i spent with the kids, playing wiffleball with them, coloring and other things. Maybe my problem is that if i know kids are around, i wont interract with adults i will only spend time with the kids. I enjoy being around kids, especially a big group of them.
I also have to point out that sometimes some ppl do no kids at a wedding bc of finances which should be respected. Honestly, for us to have kids it would've cost a couple thousand extra, one thing is DH was set on having no kids and one request he really made. Some ppl might think about this and realize they dont have enough money to invite all these kids...some are lucky and dont have many kids in their families or friends dont have many kids...but some come from HUGE families, such as Dh and were looking at 40 kids or more, im sure theres others on here with same situation. But some might even want kids but dont have it in their budget. Not all Rh's are free for kids and some are quite pricey infact.

We didn't have children at our wedding except for my 2 nephews who were the ring bearers.. Everyone was totally cool with that. It was an adult party

Ooh, I hope you didn't take offense...was definitely not my intention!
Ha...almost don't blame you. Children can be more pleasant to be around. I understand what you're saying.
Oh, the finances was a big part of it for us. I didn't remember, but my FH said that children would be full-price...I thought it would be lower. (edited for lurkers)

Re: No Kids Invited = DRAMA
babies are implanted with tiny alarms timed to go off during your vows :) There was one very very cute, very not invited, baby, and yes, it started making noise right during the 'wrote our own vows' segment. I was so happy I didn't care. But it's a good thing there was only one. I really think, the parents stop paying attention to the baby during the ceremony, and the baby starts crying. It all depends on how much you care about these things.
