NO matchy matchyy bridesmaid dresses

NO matchy matchyy bridesmaid dresses

so i'm really thinking of telling my bridesmaids a color (-lite yellow-) and then they can pick ANY dress they want in lite yellow- so all the dresses would be different- lengths, fabrics, shades, and shilouttes.
Has anyone done this? How did it turn out>?
any pics to see how it looks would be a GREAT help...
thanks~~~

Re: NO matchy matchyy bridesmaid dresses

Well, I didn't go quite to that extreme, I picked the color/fabric/designer and the girls chose different dresses, all the same length, and I think it looked good It was still matching, but they all had their own personality I guess

Here's a pic with 3 of the 4 girls where you can see the dresses, no pro pics yet so no great pics with all the dresses, but you get the idea....MOH was the only one who had straps, but some girls picked 2 piece, some 1 piece, all 4 different

Personally I think if you leave it SO open as you said, it might look messy. I originally wanted to do that, have MOH have long and other girls have short, but I saw some pics like that and didn't like it...I think you're better off finding a designer that has a ton of different style dresses in the same colors (there are a lot like this--mine were bill levkoff, there are lots of different styles in taffeta and satin from him) and have them choose from that....especially with a color like yellow which might be tough for the girls to find off the rack...

I'm thinking about doing this too....

i think there are so many fabrics and shades... and even 'light yellow' may differ from designer to designer... that it may look like hodgepodge.....

i'd at least have them pick from the same designer if anything.

yes i would narrow it down to one designer and one swatch and let them go from there

I would stick with one designer and one specific color.

I just picked the designer and color and a few ideas that I thought were cute and the girls picked their favorite style. I dont have any pictures but I think it will look nice together. I saw all the dresses together and they look great. A lot of the bridal mags have pics of dresses of the same or inverse colors but different styles and i love the look. Plus I think the girls enjoyed picking a dress that they liked and they might be able to wear again.

the only thing i would stick with is designer & fabric...and let them choose the style. If they use all different designers, you'd be suprised how different one color looks...also, if the fabrics are all different it may look a little wierd in photos(let alone in person)...but as for letting them choose different styles i'm all for it! i've seen it done numerous times, and it always looks good

I asked that the dresses be from the same designer (alfred angelo), fabric (satin) color (victorian lilac) and floor length. Other than that they could do what they want, as long as no 2 girls had the same style.

here are two shots of my girls.

I agree with jt - you have to stick with a certain designer and color & they should be ordered at the same time to prevent the colors from being 'off'.

I selected Jasmine - the B2 line and these are all the dresses my girls chose...

I'm kind of doing this. I chose the color from the David's Bridal line and the BM's can choose the style (halter, strapless, sleeves, etc) and the length (tea length, long length) from the collection. They'll all be in the same exact color and material.

It’s nice that you want to give your girls some freedom to be unique but you want to make sure there is some form of orderliness and uniformity. I would pick the color and the fabric, length and the girls can pick the style of the dress. Don’t give them too many options because it could get hectic. The length I would pick also only so you don’t have a majority of your girls wearing gowns and then one girl has a cocktail dress on. Even though you are giving the girls choices remember you are the bride and you still have the right to make changes. Good Luck!

my friend did this with black dresses at her wedding- and even with black, there was so much color variation from dress to dress- i agree with the other girls- pick a color and a designer and then let the girls pick the dress they like

make sure you keep fabric and designer the same ONLY because all the designers vary in fabrics and it could look odd if one is wearing Taffeta and the other chiffon.

We chose one dress and then the girls chose the color they wanted.

I def preferred doing this as I think its unfair to ask all girls to wear the same dress unless they are all built the same or similarly. JMO. Some poeple just dont like wearing certain necklines. So I told my girls any dress from jcrew in espresso and tea length. I left it up to them. I didn't really care as Im not the one wearing it.

i love that you said what store to go to GinaZ (J Crew)- thats totally what i want to do- have it ACTUALLY be a dress they can wear again- since they're picking it out-

also i would think the color would be the same since its all from the same store- great idea- and all your girls looked great!!

I don't like this look very much BUT that's what I am ending up doing LOL Our bridal party is going to look strange anyway!
But I gave them the designer and the color, and I have asked that I can see the dresses before they buy them (though I don't think I'll have any issues w/them???)

Re: NO matchy matchyy bridesmaid dresses

I did this as well, it didn't bother me that the fabric and the exact color weren't the same...i personally don't like the matchy matchy look and i wanted the girls to buy something they could wear again...and a guest at my wedding was wearing a jcrew bridesmaid dress, so you can wear them again!
