My FSIL (also MOH) wants to dedicate a song to my FH (her brother). Now i don't know if she wants it to just be played while she dances with him alone (which i don't want!!), or if everyone else will dance also. Is this a common thing? I have 2 problems with it. #1- he wanted to use the song for his mother/son dance. #2- I feel like shes trying to have the spotlight shine on her. i keep having to remind her this day is not about her.
but should i not let this bother me and let her do her thing? (as long as its not some 'spotlight dance' kinda thing) or should i nix it?

If it's SO important for your SIL to dance w/ your husband - she won't care WHAT song she's dancing to or WHO is watching - she would just want to dance w/ her brother - period Sounds to me like you're right - She wants the attention on her. - Nip it in the bud now

Re: Not sure how to feel about this....
thanks for everyones opinion.
I think i'm going to talk to her tonight and tell her that i don't think its a good idea to surprise him with it. I'll bring up his 'problem' with having a spotlight dance. (thats the thing... WE'RE not even having one, why should they?? we're going to start off dancing alone, then have everyone join us halfway through) And that she should really be planning it with him.
Maybe she could surprise him with what song she picks, and that it not be a 'spotlight' kinda thing. Just have the DJ announce that its a special dedication from her to him, and everyone can dance to it. But i don't think a spotlight dance is necessary, unless of course my FH decides he would like to have it like that. Thats reasonable, right?

Umm, now I am starting to think: If you and he are not even having a spotlight dance, then he should not be having a spotlight dance with ANYONE...again, JMO

I would COMPLELETY nix that. if she wants to dedicate a song, it should to the two of you. it's YOUR day, not hers. I' be completely uncomfortable with that. I'd veto it big time

I just wanted to say that I am so surprised by the reaction to your FH dancing with his sister. My FH and I plan to have a song dedicated to our siblings. He will dance with his sister & I with my brother at the same time and then halfway through the song he will dance with his other sister and I with his brother. I think it is a really nice idea to show how special they are to us. I've seen it done before and think it's really nice. I don't think there is anything wierd about dancing with a sibling. I'm not sure if you have siblings of your own though & I can understand you feeling a little uncomfortable if you are totally left out of this dance between your FH and his sister. In that case I would say that it should not be a 'spotlight' dance but rather a song dedicated from your FH to his sister with the MC asking everyone to join in. Perhaps you can get someone special to dance with you suring this song. JMHO
I agree....my FI and I are doing the same thing....My FSIL is also my MOH and I have no problem with them having a dance together. I have 2 brothers and I will be having dances with them as well---we are going to have people join in after a few minutes but I want them (as well as me and my bros) to have those few minutes. I think its a nice gesture. JMHO as well!!!!
