Re: not to sure

you seem to have alot on ur plate right now.. if u want to do it at home then do it.. u can even look into taking close immediate friends and family out for dinner and it could be about 300. you get a set menu with like 4 choices and it limits the guests and price.. i can reccommend a few places if ur interested

We had one but it was thrown as a surprise (to me - greatest surprise of my life only second to the engagement. FH knew about it and helped plan it) in my basement with both families thrown by my parents.

That being said if someone offers to throw you an engagement party don't decline the offer! The money we made from that party really helped us start off on the right foot cause neither of us had savings put away for the wedding. We just started saving after we got engaged.

Thanks to those gifts we were able to book a hall and put the downpayment down the following weekend!

we didn't have one, b/c we thought itwould be like asking for gifts, NOW This is JMHO, hope I don't insult anyone

yeah thats why you can't host it yourself, someone else has to do it, not to mention an e-party is in honor of the couple so you can't throw a party in your own honor. Even if you do pay someone else has to host it. No its not insulting, actually just about everyone we know doesn't give gifts at e-party. Doesn't help my point bc they all give money though.

Yeah after the e-party i think it will help bc whatever we get i am putting it towards the RH installments so i dont have to worry about it for a while.

put it this way.... if you have to pay for your own e-party IMO it's not worth it.... if you parents are FIL's want to throw you a party and pay for the entire thing, than by all means.... cash in!

I agree

My parents are paying for most of it but i've contributed. It just got out of hand and we have more guests than expected, so more expenses. I just feel real bad for themhaving to pay it all for such a big e-party.

I am having mine next week. My mom and FILs are throwing the party for us. To be honest, there has been so much drama with the whole thing, I wish we haven't had it at all BUT I'm sure that it will be lots of fun in the end and the money we make will come in very very handy with all the deposits we need to make!

No you are def not the only one, I've been looking forward to planning my wedding for as long as I can remember and now I'm dreading the next year and a half if it is going to be anything like the past few months (all for a stupid engagement party!)
