Re: Now what do I do??

nowadays, you only see a lily on a coffin or grave in an OLD cartoon. in movies, i think i see more roses on coffins as i sit here thinking about this.

ignore it.....the last wedding i attended used lilies for the CPs and it was pretty...not once did anyone think of a funeral.

Don't you just love how everyone decides that you are in dire need of their opinion when it comes to your own wedding??

Not sure if this will make a difference to you, but I married a funeral director and bought a house next to the funeral home, so I am around those arrangements ALL the tme. I mean ALL the time. I have seen callas at weddings and thought only of how elegant and beautiful they were...nothing made me think of funerals, and when you are me, so many things make you think of fnerals. That was probably the weirdest answer you will get on here, but hope it helps. Do what you like...callas + wedding = gorgeous.

yes i have heard that. They are associated with funerals. But I think that is changing now.

I have heard this too about white calla lilies, but I think it's a very old superstitution because you don't hear that much anymore. In any event, don't worry about it. There's a stupid superstitution for everything and you shouldn't let dumb people ruin your day. They're beautiful flowers and no one will think of funerals on your day.

ETA: I think we all get our fair share of people not knowing when to keep their mouths shut. Once we set a date, some of my old-fashioned relatives gave us grief for choosing May because it's bad luck to get married in May. I had never heard that before, and it certainly didn't stop me though I recently saw it on a website that listed all sorts of wedding superstitions. Still, they should've just kept it to themselves. Don't let anyone ruin your plans for you - your day, your way.

Ok, that person needs to shut it. I heard the same thing! My COUSIN said to me 'Oh. You are using calla lillies? I could never. They remind me of Paw (my grandfather)'s wake'

Um. THANKS! Anyway, I used callas all over my wedding. The girls carried them, the guys had them as bouts and our CP's were callas. Actually, I was the only one who carried roses, and they were pink roses b/c my grandmother loved them (as do I) and she passed away nine months before my wedding.

Do what you want. Callas are beautiful

I have heard that about regular white lillies but not calla lillies. Honestly if they were associated with death/funerals, you wouldn't see every bridal magazine showcasing them as the latest thing. I say go for it! The woman didn't know WTH she was talking about.

Re: Now what do I do??

aren't all flowers used in funeral arrangements?

LOL i mean really... every funeral arrangement i have ever seen has ALL sorts of flowers in it-- including roses (which are so popular and i'm using all roses) they are in almost every funeral arrangement known to man (IE, the bleeding heart)... so that's a ridiculous statement.

The only way to avoid using a flower that they use commonly at funerals is to not have any at all !!!

Some people

ETA: maybe she is confused w/ the tiger lily (the one with the pinkish redish color)... not that they are used more often at funerals b/c ALL flowers are used in arrangements-- but a tiger lily has a chemical in it (gladyola, SP?) and that emotes a smell that anyone who has ever smelled a tiger lily would know it right away and that sometimes can remind one of a funeral b/c the smell is so overwhelming that if they use it ONCE in an arrangement-- you can smell it. a lot of time florists will use that flower b/c of the smell (especially way back when) b/c it was better than smelling anything else, IE the body or the imbalming chemicals *YUCK*... but that has nothing to do with the calla-- that's the tiger lily and again ALL FLOWERS are used in arrangements! lol, oh well, just trying to get inside someone's strange mind
