I took it the other night bc I felt a little sick... everything was fine besides the weird dreams... took it again last night bc I havent been sleeping well and really needed a deeper sleep (not to mention I'm feeling under the weather) and had the strangest thing happen to me... hallucinations (auditory, visual, and feeling things move that I know could possibly be moving)
I was in such a fog that I went right back to sleep but it was the weirdest thing... Has this happened to any of you?

Do you have a fever? I know hallucinations usually happen when you have a really high fever.
I did have a problem once where I was really sick and had an ear infection which threw off my equilibrium and I thought I was falling off the bed! Woke up the next morning sleeping sideways holding on for dear life onto my mattress lol

Nyquil messes me up, to the point that I feel hazy and out of it for like 2 days afterwards. Really weird. I only took it 3 times in my life and that was enough..

if you dont usually take drugs and nyquil it could happen....nyquil has a high alcohol rate i think....and if you haven't been sleeping the combo of the drugs in nyquil and the sleep could have caused it

that happened to me once when I took something like nyquil....the dr. said I had some kind of allergic reaction to it and told me not to take anything like that again. I remember getting out of my bed and walking around my house, feeling weak, disoriented and then having the wierdest dreams all night.

When you are in a deep sleep then wake up it's VERY possible. Once I woke up and swore there was the torso of a woman in my bed... just arms and a head were attached and she was smoking a cigarette. She didn't have legs. I punched her and went back to sleep. Strange!
Also like someone said... a fever can make you do and see all sorts of things. If it rises during the night while you are sleeping.... it can really cause strange occurances. I actually slept walked bc of it. And that was without any medication being involved.
Did you take Nyquil liquid or pills? The liquid makes me nauseous.
If you are having problems sleeping maybe you should try Advil PM or Tyelenol PM or one of those simply sleep pills. They work and it's not like taking nyquil.

wow... seeing something else in bed with me would have totally freaked me out... what happened to me was i felt the bed move and heard something thump like our cats were running under it and i look beside me and the cats were sleeping right next to us... totally weird
i took the liquid and i read online of people having similar experiences with the stuff... seems like thats the consensus on here too ... i have tylenol pm and was going to take that but was feeling a cold coming on so somehow thought nyquil would be the better choice.. lol both fh & i havent been sleeping bc the cats have been super active at night and pouncing on us... we dont have a proper door on our bedroom to keep them out (dont ask, its a long story lol)

Re: NWR - Anyone who's used Nyquil...
Yes that happened to me a few times with the nyquil. I asked the doctor. He said it could be a number of things... Ill write them best I can remember him saying it....
He said some people (like me) can not handle the amount of medication, and when it travels to your nerves it acts as a tranquilizer. He said this happens often with children and benadryl.
The second thing he said was that it puts your body into a form of sedation, very similar to a sleeping pill however, it also has enough to keep the mind from knowing its surroundings. He said if you have a fever, this then aids in your brain being put into sleep mode, while still awake. (So you are seeing your dreams)
He said this is very similar to..... I forget the name... but people who wake up, but their body is still in sleep mode so they cant really move... is it sleep apnia? Not sure. But he said this is why he never suggests any kind of medications like this. He said the side effects are so common but people dont realize that its hapening so they dont report it...
Hope that helps. Havnt taken it since...

This happens to me everytime I take a nighttime cold medicine. I also see spots in my eyes from it. My dr. told me that that type of meds make your blood pressure rise and can do weird things to your body! But don't worry all that hullicinations and stuff is totally normal!

The same thing happened to me. I took it once and I felt like I was in atranz all day! I will never take it again! I literally felt like I was on some kind of drug the next day. It took me all day to snap out of it!

Christ, this is why I stay away from any OTC medication and most prescriptions with the exception of my Synthroid! That's horrible! I can't inagine Nyquil giving you some trippy hippy visions. I would stay the hell away from that!

The dextromethorphan in the Nyquil (used as the cough suppressant) can cause hallucinations. There are people that will drink Robitussin DM (or any other meds that contain the dextromethorphan in order to induce hallucinations. Be careful - and hope you are feeling better
