i just got back from my long weekend in vermont. My FH is a country boy & hates NY. mostly because of the hustle & bustle and its soooo expensive.
anyway, he kept hinting about moving to vermont. maybe not now but in the future..everything is such a long drive. you need a car for everything. the nearest super market is about 20 minutes away. no night life whats so ever... i was so ready to come home.. there isn't a whole lot to do. we went with some friends on their boat on the lake, but i am sure that gets played out after awhile.
the average cost of the house in vermont is about $195K and taxes are about $1,500... can you imagine that!! the houses are pretty nice too !
just wondering who likes the city life over the country

COUNTRY girl totally!!! I love to sit by the fire with some hot cocoa and make smores. I like to be where I can buy a fresh pie and bread off the side of the road. I love knitting, crocheting and spinning my own yarn from wool. and I love country music or blues like johnny cash, willie nelson, waylon jennings, merle haggard, dixie chicks, alison krauss too!
My mom doesn't know where I get it from...but I have this old country sould...but i was born and raised in harlem, then moved to queens and then long island...besides our weekend camping trips to pa I've never spent time in the 'country'

I was born on Long Island and of course I wound up back here...but I spent 15 years in upstate New York, and you learn to not be so bothered by the distance involved in reaching places, but rather to enjoy the peacefulness, lack of traffic, and reasonable cost of living...we are, and have been for a year or so, considering a post-wedding move to Pennsylvania...I guess to be brief...i'm a country girl

Are you looking anywhere specific in Eastern PA... we had looked in PA and I'm pretty into the idea, but I guess FH is a bit more city than I am so he's a bit more resistant

Re: NWR - Are you more a city or country girl?
i would say more of of city girl, but i like to say i am a country girl at heart.
My family has a house in upstate, NY (the middle of nowhere)....literally, there is a dairy farm (with tons of cows!) across the road, and you have to drive through a private corn field just to get to the house (really a cottage). So i spent so many summers there when i was young.
I also have family in vermont and have been going there since i was a I love how quiet, simple, and relaxing it is up there. But i also like how fast paced it is in the city.
here are pics from upstate
in order... 1. the road leading to the house 2. me with the dairy cows 3. FH with the cows 2. the corn fields on the private road
I went to school upstate, then Philly then NJ for grad school. I couldn't wait to get back. I can't live in a city that isn't like NY. I'm too accustomed to the way of life, the hecticness, how things are always open when I need them to be and it's so easy to get around!

I'm definitely a suburb girl. The city exhausts me, but I dont enjoy spending lots of time w/cows either. Where I live now I can easily get to the city OR someplace rural-ish in about an hour. Plus, the mall is 5 min away. Whats not to love??

Def. a city girl..I love bein someplace where there's always something to do. I have 2 delis and a pizzaria within 2 blocks of my house, and it's really spoiled me!! If I walk 2 blocks more I have every store you could need. Hop in the car and you have restaurants, malls, clubs, fast-food..everything within 5-10 minutes...
I love being in the country, but a day or two and I'm soooooooooooo ready to be at home. It's great for vacationing though!! The stars a amazing..,I had no idea there were so many stars until recently hehe
But my love, is truly the beach..I would love to live on an island and look at that beautiful water all the time...but I never see myself moving from the city..too far from family, friends and bodegas! hehe

I spent most of my life in the city and will always remain a city girl! That's why FH and I bought a house on the nassau/queens border...the best of both worlds WITHOUT the feeling of seclusion.

Suburb girl! I could NEVER leave in the country. I dont like the idea of everything being so far apart and having to use a car for everything. Plus its soooo boring. FH wanted to move to VA with his family but Id go crazy over there.

I'd move out of the city in a heartbeat! FH & I are actually down to go down south!!! Why the hell pay all this money for a 1 bedroom tiny *** place when you can have a 3 bedroom house with actual land attached to it... LOL
