NWR - Can anyone recommend a dog?

DH and I are contemplating getting a dog, but we are unsure about which breed...

Anyone know of any small / medium size dog that is allowed to be carried on the plane in a bag and is also good with kids???

I have always thought that smaller dogs are more tempermental... Any opinions???

Thanks so much!!!

From FI who is a vet:

Maltese
bichon frese (spelling?)
dodsons
sheltie (looks like a mini version of lassie)

You can't guarantee the size but:
golden doodle
laboradoodle

Labs and Goldens are the best with kids (but they are large)

I have a cockapoo and he is the best dog in the whole world he is fun and so loving. I have had dogs my entire life but not a dog like this. It will be a year next month that we have had him. We got him from a breeder.

maybe a Westie (West Highland White Terrier) or a Lhasa Apso. Both small to medium dogs. Good luck.

Westie's are so cute - there is the cutest Westie on the dog show on the Discovery channel right now!

try a shelter. My dogs from north shore animal league. they are great dogs and need homes. You don't have to spend a billion dollars on a inbred dog either.

I have to agree. I never thought I would like a big dog but they are the most loveable dogs!! He is so great with my nieces and has such a great temperment.
As for small dogs, my parents have a poodle who I love, but he can be mean at times. He has snapped at my niece once or twice (and yes she was pulling his hair but I still don't like dogs that bite). I would talk to some breeders and find out what the best fit is for you! Good luck, dogs are the best

I had a dog from NSAL growing up and she was the best

Mutts are very smart & I love them! but the only problem is that their size can be uncertain...

I have a cocker spaniel and he is great. I'm not so sure hoe he would be around kids, he's never been around kids for too long of a time. He likes to be the center of attention, I think that's how the bread is, they like attention. My FIL's have a yellow lab, she is a great dog, and great with kids. She can be a little bit of a handful at times, she's still in the puppy stage, and she likes to play. She is VERY smart, and was very train-able. She is HUGE though.

I have a french bull dog, she is awesome! She is full grown and weighs 18lbs, small enough to carry in a bag on a plane, but big enough not to step on her(unlike my chihuahua) She is such a sweetie, very playful, shes really good with my niece and nephews

We just got an Italian Greyhound. It's a miniature greyhound. They are such good dogs. Everywhere you are he just wants to cuddle up next to you and when you want it to play he will, but as soon as you stop he stops.
I highly recommend this dog becuase he isn't too small but not big at all.

My family has always had poodles. They are very loveable, well-behaved, and easy to train. I have a teacup poodle now. She is the absolute sweetest. She has come on the plane with me a few times and she uses a dog litter box. Before her, my family had a miniature poodle who also went back and forth to FL with my parents on the plane many times.

minature greyhound
I have had whippets, which are a little bigger, but they are the greatest. Wonderful with children, very timid and totally sweet!
