I'm always jealous of people who get this!!! I NEVER get an end of year bonus!!
Wait I'm lying... I get either a Ham or a Turkey!!! I get to pick which one I want and I get an oscar mayer ham or turkey (like the big cold cut kind.... just not sliced... so I never know what to do with it). I'm not a ham person... not like that anyway... and turkey is ehh... so I donate it to the homeless shelter that FH parents run. I think they actually stopped this though... I don't recall getting the ham or turkey last year. I guess now we get nada!!!

Nope, no bonus for me...EVER not even a Ham or Turkey! My old company would give us Gift Cards to the local supermarket around Thanksgiving time...which was nice.

Re: NWR - Christmas Bonus
I got my year-end bonus for 2007 in early 2008, as usual. My year-end bonus for 2008 should have come in early 2009 but instead they had to freeze salaries and no one really got anything. Then this year we had a salary reduction by 10%, so I am guessing that there will be no year-end bonus at all!

Re: NWR - Christmas Bonus
We don't get a real bonus at this firm - last year we got AMEX gift cards and the year before that we each got a IPOD Touch.
I'm lucky though. I've worked for one of the partners here as his paralegal for 20 years (except for a 3 year break when I left and worked at another firm) - so he gives me a bonus out of his pocket every year.
The firm that I worked for in NYC gave 2 weeks salary every year as a bonus. However, that firm no longer exists because the guy who was running it is now in jail for shady financial deals!!

My industry doesn't have bonuses. I guess the bonus is working there

I honestly should not be complaining. There were layoffs here, but I still have a job. Plus, my old company gave 5% paycuts. I need to learn to be grateful!!!

Re: NWR - Christmas Bonus
I normally would...my first year (2007) I got an extra weeks pay. I was only here for 4 months though at that point, so I don't know if it would be more than that if I had worked here longer. We also have a holiday dinner every year.
Last year, we did not receive bonuses, which was appparently the first year in 25 years they couldn't give any. I got a $200 AMEX gift card under the table as a small gesture, because at that point in time my boss still actually liked me and talked to me. Then a few months later we got a 15% paycut
This year, I'm certainly not anticipating a bonus, since business is much worse than it was last year. I'm not even expecting that we're going to get our regular salary back as of 1/1/10, though we were promised we would, but I can see that conversation right now....yeah, so about that....yeah....we're not going to be able to do that anymore.....and yeah....we're actually going to need to take another 15%.....yeah.
Our holiday party will probably be at McDonald's this year. Or better yet, my boss will combine my wedding with the holiday party haha. At least I should get some wedding gifts from them Unless they think since I get paid by them they don't need to?
I haven't gotten a raise since November 2007. I've gone backwards since then with the paycut. My boss firmly believes that since he gives me fully paid medical (and JUST medical, not even vision and dental) that I cannot expect to get a raise ever. And he's said that too. It's such a disgusting plateau.

Ali - are you job hunting at all? You should be!!! Even if it's not now... because of the wedding planning stuff... but in the near future!! You should get out now!! You don't have to be aggressively looking... but def looking on a weekly basis to see what else is out there. Being at a company that seems to be going under is not a good thing...and taking that many pay cuts with no bonues (where they used to give them) is a BAD BAD sign!!! Not to mention... they sound like Nazi's!!!

Thankfully - up in the North we have had no layoffs. At least not that I'm aware of.

Very casually...what I have experience in is not really hiring at all right now, and the good jobs generally want that 3-5 years experience bracket, which I don't even have 3 years yet (you all probably forget because I'm so wordy, but I'm YOUNG, only 24). It's tough.I will probably start being more agressive in August after the HM, if I even make it that long. My office manager stirred the shiz pot a few weeks ago and told me that I was next on the chopping block should they have to chop...so me and FH discussed if that was the case, I'd just collect unemployment for a while, which is the same as what I take home with this cut anyways bah. Plus, I'm pretty industrious, so I'm sure I'd be fine

OK well at least you are looking around oh 'wordy young one'. haha! I started at my job VERY young too. I was 19, now i'm 28 (I'll turn 29 on my HM). Experience is key. Sometimes you have to put up with a load of bull for it...but it works out in the end. Get your 3 years (or if you can get out before then) and move on!! Sometimes the best thing to do is to stay for a little while... get the experience and then job hop a little bit in effort for better salary. I have a friend who did this and she makes well over 100,000 a year. Granted that's quite high for an average...but had she not jumped around a bit... she wouldn't be close to where she is now.
Sometimes I need to take my own advice. haha!! But my goal isn't to be the bread winner. haha!

Haha wordy young one, I like it. We're going to see how the next few months pan out...luckily FH does well, not well enough to own a home with my salary right now, but we'll be fine in our apartment, and I'm really good with shopping and coupons and sales. If it becomes a necessity, and we're struggling because of money, then of course I'll have to step up my game. In a perfect world though, I'd win the lotto and stop working, or FH would make double and then I can be a stay-at-home mom.
