NWR: Disgusted

NWR: Disgusted

So fh had to kick out his first floor tenant (a mom with 4 kids) and we went about it the right way and gave her 30 days (til end of Oct.). FH is gonna be fixing it up so we can move in there before the wedding. Not only did she refuse to pay the month (told us to keep the deposit insead) she left the place an absolute mess. No real damage but she left clothing, garbage, cigarette butts, food, and even a dirty diaper EVERYWHERE! There is no exageration here, its a pig sty. I don't know what her kids are walking around in cuz it looks like she left their whole wardrobe all over the house. She left a whole bunch of crap all over the front yard, left all the windows and doors open with the heat blasting (FH pays the heat). But since there's no damage (aside from a cabinet door off the hinge), we can't sue her or anything. She knew exactly what she was doing. We were supposed to meet up last sunday so she could give us the key (she said she was ready to leave) but never called and isn't picking up our calls. We just went there last night since its November already. Does anyone know what we can do?? If we can do anything at all??

Sorry so long but we are beyond disgusted with this lady.

OMG THIS IS TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate people who take advantage of kind hearts! My mother had a terror of a tenant as well.

At least she's out now.

Good luck with everything!!!!

ETA: hire a locksmith and change the locks!! and get a restraining order ASAP!

I don't know how much you could do or if it would even be worth it, just be happy there is no major damage and change the locks.

You can also call the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department (if that is where the house is). They handle evictions and they can actually take the remainig items from the apartment and if she returns you can tell her that is where her belongings are.

defiantly change the locks! .. and I'm so sorry that happened, I don't understand why people do mean things to people who were trying to help by giving 30 days!

The house is in Suffolk. Wait, so they will actually take all her crap out? Its mostly clothing and garbage but she left 3 sofas and two matresses too. Do you know who exactly that works and how long it'll take?

Me, my mom and FH's mom were going to go there tomorrow and empty out the house and put everything in the garbage. The contract says if the abandons the house for more than one week we are allowed to take possession of what she has left in it. I want to throw everything out so that in case she comes back next week asking to pick up the rest we can say sorry, its in the garbage. Is that evil of us? I mean, its legally true.

wow that really stinks I would do what everyone else is saying 'change the locks' I dont think she will ever answer your calls but in a way she is screwing herself because she cant really put you down as a reference if she ever finds another place and if she did (for some odd reason) you can give the realtor or whomever the scoop on her and how horrible of a tennant she was

yeah. supposedly, she already had a place she was going to move into before we served her with the papers. She must be staying with a friend or something. Ugh, I just hope karma is a real b!tch

definatly do that- with all my legal experience (I watch judge judy every day)- I know that she could sue you if you throw out her stuff- she can say she was going to come back and get it- and it doesnt matter if its 6 months later- she'll win

Why did you have to kick her out?

Re: NWR: Disgusted

We found out that we needed to be living in the house in order to rent the upstairs. Its a legal two family but the village says we must be one of the two families. But we were planning on moving in there closer to the wedding anyways. But also, she wasn't paying her rent and was delaying it wayyy too much. She actually still hasn't fully paid August but we felt bad for her and let her stay anyways cuz she said she was getting the money.... yeah right. never seen it.

If you have a lease with her you can contact the Sheriff's and tell them that she had 30days to leave, the 30 days are up, she hasn't been in the apartment in X amount of days, you want to know what exactly you are liable for. If you have it documented that you have been to the Sheriff and they have advised you of the proper proceedure, she won't have a shot in h e l l of suing you.

People are so disgusting----def change the locks and call the police department and see what they can do--I am sure they handled this before.
