NWR: For those who are house hunting or have been through it

How long before you actually were buying did you start looking? I was told that we should start looking now if we plan on buying after the wedding which is 6 months away, so we can get a feel of what we want... although I don't think it will be right away I have a feeling we might have to wait a few more months...any thoughts?

FH and took vacation Feb 2006 (at the time we lived in Boston and now the Mid-West, God help us...LOL) anyway we looked at 27 houses in 4 days put an offer on one waited 2 days got an accepted offer (a bit of bargaining had to go on). Closed March 30th 2006. Now we live in the great state of Ohio and I live for my trips to the east coast!!!! LOL
LOL wow that is great, i wish I could get FH to move out of NY as much as I love NY I feel like we will just be living to live in NY if that makes any sense ...it is just so darn expensive here!

i have to admit I LOVE Boston but if we would of stayed there we would of NEVER owned a house between the 2 of us we made 100,000 a yr and still with how expensive it was we would of owned a 2 bedroom 1 bath townhouse that needed MAJOR remodeling!!! In the Mid west we got a house 4 bedrooms 3 bathrooms, our money went way farther... unfortunately we did have to take salary cuts :( Personally I miss the city it is a bit quiet out this way... LOL

OMG! It feels like FOREVER! Thank god for www.MLSLI.com that's where we found a lot of the houses to look at (Newsday is always a good starting place)....but then take that house & plug it into the website & really look to see if you want to waste your precious time seeing it! It is a buyer market!! There are TONS of houses...DO NOT SETTLE! You will find it. We were about 6 months of looking....then found (what we thought) was the house, built in 2004. We were CRUSHED when the engineer said NOT to buy it. (foundation issues & settling issues & no warrantee). BUT that's OK, because the DR was a little smaller than we liked & a little too close to a highway anyway. PS about 2 months later we found THE HOUSE. We must have gone back to the house 5 times before putting a binder on it...All worth the wait. We hope to close this month, God willing, or next month.
Best of Luck to you...& DON'T Settle unless it's THE HOUSE! There are too many houses on the market!
i became as addicted to mlsli.com as LIW!!!!
ahh, yes, my two favorite websites

Yeah we were thinking of NC, well at least I was trying to show him that most of the people that have moved there are from NY. I have family there and they said Cary is basically all young NY couples, i am willing to go and check it out not so sure he will though. We can just live so much better there than we would here it kills me.
