My girlfriend worked for a company where the bosses each gave her $1k + gift certificates for x-mas, but she never got her bosses anything expensive, just something thoughtful. Like someone mentioned, it's somwhat inappropriate to give your boss something of $$$. (just my .o2)

I work in a Financial Co.. I use to Trade for Enron b4 I came here so I had alot of 'floor' experience..

Since the market STINKS and I have my Pre Law Degree I came down from the floor and into the legal end and I am #2 in the compliance office..

I love it.....................

I can't WAIT for the market to TURN!!!!!!!!!

I would get the best bottle of scotch money can buy!! and maybe an expensive pen? use part of the gift certs they gave you for the pen, cause that could cost you some bucks!!

AIG gives out 5k bonus to their admin's

Goldman Sacs.. Gives out 10k..

And CSFB gives out 20k in Feb..

Yes it still happens...

The fur coat was 99.99 its Rabbit Fur and I got it on sale....

She is small.. So its cute.....................

The industry does stink.. But..

Law firm Struck and Struck had their XMAS party at Plaza..

And all those Gifts are from CLIENTS...

I never buy my boss' gifts.. I work for them all year round and bust my ass.. and I too, have received gifts over $1k and some expensive items, but nothing like a fur or a 89457394587 dollar gift cert. for saks or something lol

What kind of financial company do you work for? Ive worked for a few ibanks and that stuff is explicitly not allowed. Do you work for a boutique?

CSFB does not give $20K to everyone...everyones bonus is different based on performance.

PS: I think you are fully entitled to a bonus since that is company funded...i was just curious how your gift policies differed from ones I was familiar with.

Same here Marcella, we don't get bonus' because we get the last two weeks of the year off, so we get cash gifts out of their pockets usually.

I get them maybe a bottle, Godiva's...but to get them anything bigger when they make twice what I do? HA!

I got my bosses daugther the fur bc I didn't knwo what to get him so I said I will get the baby a gift .. She is ALWAYS in here..

The clients sent Gifts to their traders and people in the legal DEPT...

I didn't think it was a big deal since when the market was up and I traded the gifts were slamming..

U know how it is !!!!

I work in finance as well for a very well known financial firm and none of those numbers are definite this year (at least around here)
Cash bonuses of that amount are common in the I-Banking industry, but I would certainly not be spending any signifigant amount of $$$ on my boss. It would make him feel uncomfortable and he knows better than to expect that from me.
Are you sure want to spend that kind of $$$?

Since I don't Trade its allowed..........When you trade you know that law.. Nothing over I think it is 200.00 right? Unless its a business expense.. I took teh 7 4 years ago.. So I am not fresh on the laws/

I have Girlfriends who work in each CO and they said that they have contracts that tell them the amt they are getting...

My friend works at CSFB On the High Yield side and she is DEF getting 20k..

After taxes is another story!
