NWR- Is it true?

Original post by bettybcafe

Is it true that if you are on BC and you want to conceive it may take up to 2yrs after stopping the pill to get pregnant??? My FH told me that his sis told him that her friend stopped BC and it took her 2yrs to get prenant and then she miscarried. I was a bit upset at this because he couldnt give me any more info on the girl..like, how old is she? what is her medical background? has she miscarried before? is this what her Dr. said, or is she assuming its due to the BC? In any case, Im curious to know your opinions on this matter..I heard that its not really true..that once you stop BC you can try to get pregnant...but Im just wondering what you girls know (especially those of you who are on BC)
TIA

Re: NWR- Is it true?

I was speaking to a fertility specialist recently (NOT for me, lol) and she said that when you are on the pill, your uteran lining is thin (like 1mm) so it would be virtually impossible (but obviously not completely imposibble) for an egg to atttach. Not on the pill, the uterus is about 7mm thick. Some women take a few months to build up the uteran lining again to make it the best situation for an egg to attach. When people miscarry right after going off the pill, it is sometimes because the uteran lining was not thick/strong enough yet to hold onto the egg. That said, she also said that every single woman is different, so I would speak to your dr. if you are nervous! Good luck!!

I heard only 3 months after you stop taking it. I think 2 years is extreme. I've never heard that.

everyone is different, when my sister stoped taking it the dr. recommended that she wait 3 months to concieve, was on pill over 10yrs, and she concieved right at 3 months.. and i have a friend who went off and it took 6 yrs.. everyone is different, you'll never really know till you try, but i think you hve to wait like the 3 months so theres no meds left in you when you get prego, but i dont think its a crime either if it happens sooner

I know most doctors will tell you to wait 3 months after getting off the pill, I've read that the uterine lining is one reason but also because it usually takes about 3 months for your cycle to be back to normal and it will be easier to estimate your due date when you have previous cycles off the pill than getting pg right after going off the pill. Either way for most women fertility returns right away. For some people it takes a little longer.

My DOCTOR told me that as soo s I stopped, my fertility would return. If the pill was that efective it wouldn't be only 85%. Some people's bodies are different. A friend of mine told me his wif couldn't get PG for 7 months after being on BC, but then after their daughter was born and they tried again it took 2 years, no BC there, so what happened? God, Or whatever you beleive in. You wouldn't believe how many people don't think/know you can only get PG like a couple days a month! If you really wan to know, talk to your doctor, best advice for your money!

it depends....i asked my dr when to stop taking bc i am getting married and wanted to have kids. he said that if anything it would keep me 'regular' and help the process. but everyone is different and not everyone is on the same bc.

I just had a conversations with my gyno on this topic. FH and I are old raisins and will be starting a family very soon after the wedding. My gyno said to stop the pill one month before we want to conceive. This way it will be out of my system and I should start ovulating normally. Of course, everyone is different. HTH!

Exactly. Spoke to my gyno this month about this. She said stop about a month before we begin trying.
Before I even went on the pill I asked if it would decrease my fertility and she said not at all. For some women it actually helpes because it makes them ovulate on a more consistent basis ans goves the body a routine.

We'll see soon enough!

I was recently at the OB/GYN and was just curious thinking about baby timelines after the wedding And she told me once your off the pill you need to wait at least three months for the reason stated above, your body needs to develop a healthy uteran lining for the egg to attach to.

I know my MOH was pregnant within 4 months of coming off BC. I guess everyone's body reacts differently.

I don't think that's true because part of the reason the pill prevents pregnancy is because it stops ovulation. Mybe some people who hve issues with ovulating on their own take the pill and then they ovulate after getting off of it?

The effectiveness of the Pill isn't 85%, where did you hear that? Obviously, the effectiveness depends on how perfectly the woman follows the directions, but I think that even at the low end it's 92% effective. And that's the low end. If you take the Pill at the same time every day, a Pill that's working for your body (not everyone responds well to the very low-dose pills, I know I didn't) it should be 98% effective.

A lot of women have never tried to get pregnant, and assume they won't have any problems when they try. So they go off the Pill, and if they fail to get pregnant immediately, I bet a lot of them blame the Pill, when the reality is that they might have had issues anyway. A lot of women don't get pregnant easily, but they don't know it because they've spent their entire sexual history trying really hard NOT to get pregnant. Not realizing that they probably wouldn't have anyway.

OMG, rojerono.. You got pregnant WHILE being on the pill??? What the f@@@@@

What BC was that?

sesiouslly..im going to have to avoid it

I dont remember what the brand name of the pill was... it was 6 years ago and I haven't ever gone back on the pill.

To be fair... I did have a stomach virus and I was puking a LOT in the days leading up to our weekend away - which is when I conceived. But the fact is - I was NOT off the pill for close to three years.

Also... we were told that it is difficult to get pregnant while you are breastfeeding. All I have to say to that is ... have you met my son Noah?
