I haven't posted much in a few days because I was away in California for my best friend's wedding. I came home late Sunday evening and Monday morning I called my mother to ask how our dog Muffin was doing. Muffin is our dog of almost 10 years. She is a beautiful lab/shepard mix that we rescued. Last week, she was feeling ill and my parents took her to the vet. They did some xrays and found that she had ingested what looked like string. Muffin had never been the type of dog to chew on things or eat objects that wasn't food....It was unusual. They performed emergency surgery on her on Thursday and she was recovering well. My parents visited her every day and she was alert and wagging her tail. On saturday my parents went to the vet and wanted to take her home but she was running a slight fever and promised my parents they could take her home on monday. Sunday my brothers went to visit her at around 3 pm and the office was closed. Which was upsetting because my parents paid for 24 hour care. Monday morning they called to tell us she passed away. We are devestated. I left my office in NYC to go to LI to say goodbye to my girl. In the past, I've seen people leave the vets office crying and in the back of my head I always feared that one day it would be us.... This past Monday we were the family that was crying at the vets office. I'm so overwhelmingly sad and my heart is broken. I was planning on having our family's two dogs (Muffin the lab and weezer the pekingnese) involved in our wedding in september. I worry about the second dog and hope that she will be ok with the loss of her buddy.... Anyway, I just needed to talk. I've been on my couch crying because I don't want to wake up FH....

Re: NWR: Mourning the loss of my dog
Im so sorry. My 3 dogs are my whole life so I understand what you are going through.
Losing a pet is one of the worst feelings in the world. But know that it does get easier with time.
My family and I lost our beloved dog of 19 years in October of last year (06). It was horrible. This past october we brought a new pup into our house and he has brought us so much joy. Sometimes caring for a new dog in need helps you to heal too.
Just something to think about for the future.
Good luck to you.

Re: NWR: Mourning the loss of my dog
I'm sooo sorry about Muffin. I know how attached we can get to our pets. When one of my dogs was sick I flipped out because the dr said she was just shedding (fyi, shih tzus dont shed), and when I gave her a bath like the vet said, she yelped in pain because she had all open cuts on her body. I was hysterical for her.
I have four dogs, and I cant imagine what its like. The mommy will be 11 next month and we fear that as well

Re: NWR: Mourning the loss of my dog
Thank you everyone for the support and kind words. I'm so appreciative of it. Now i'm going to concentrate on my dog Weezer because she is very sad and confused. Wandering and looking for her buddy Muffin.... If anyone has any suggestions on how to help her, please let me know. I'm just giving her lots of love and attention.
i'm so sorry. i know how hard it is to lose a pet...they're a member of the family and feels like you've lost a close friend. take the time to mourn her and i hope you're feeling better soon!!

Re: NWR: Mourning the loss of my dog
i totally know how you feel right now..i had to put my 7 year old maltese to sleep last year because she had diabetes. She was fine and then like within a couple of weeks she lost so much weight and started to lose her sight...after giving her insulin shots for a couple of weeks i could just tell she was suffering. Putting her to sleep was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I still cry sometimes..(like right now)...but then i think that she is not suffering anymore and she is in doggie heaven. As for your other dog i would just give her some extra attention for a while..

Re: NWR: Mourning the loss of my dog
My lab also passed away last January....and I was DEVASTATED!! I was that girl in the office hysterical crying...wailing, in fact. We also had 2 dogs, my lab, and my pomeranian, and I was worried he wouldn't handle it well, but surprisingly, he handled it better than I did. We plan on getting another lab this summer after the wedding. I am soo sorry for your loss....I still get sad, and it has been over a year.

awww, your dogs are like our dogs. a big dog and a little dog.... I literally have been at the office just on and off crying all day. On the subway, with my sunglasses on crying. It all just happened yesterday morning so it's still so fresh. Thank you for reaching out. I really appreciate it so much....

OH no, this is horrible. i was upset hearing about someone else that lost the puppy now this. I know how horrendous this, we had to deal with our family dog falling ill and having to leave us. I can burst into tears at any time if I think too much about it, & it has been almost two years. I think that animals are such pure beautiful spirits that they truly touch your heart. Muffin is looking down on you & will look out for you always. I am so sorry again

Re: NWR: Mourning the loss of my dog
I cannot tell you how hard it was for me and FH when our PUPPY died this past December, totally unexpected and tragic. It is such a hard thing to go through so I can definitely relate! It sounds silly we have dogs and they are our companions but they become so much more than that, to us it was like our little baby!! My thoughts are with you - it will be OK and get better with time...
here is my lil puppy
