Roe vs. Wade? Should it be overturned or should it stay.
Please lets be respectful to each others opinions when we answer.

It shouldn't be illegal since it has nothing to do with the government.

unfortunately some people do use it as a form of birth control, and some women they should stop after a while. You think thats bad, my mom once had a young girl working for her, she was in her early 20's BUT my mom was shocked when the girl told her she had about 15 abortions, and even while she worked for my mom she had a couple of abortions I seriously couldn't even believe it. My mom kept even asking her how it was possible bc of how young she was and was trying to figure out how many she would have a year. Its horrible and i would've hoped that after a certain amount they wouldn't allow you anymore.
Theres other women too whose numbers are 7 abortions, 8 abortions, 10 abortions.
That can not be healthy to that girl. there is no way that you can tell me that after having 10 procedures that her reproductive organs are the same. Who knows if by the time this girl and others like her want to have children if they even can. DH is a teacher and he told me about 6th graders getting abortions that to me is sad. Where is the sex education? These poor kids are making adult decisions while they are still children.
she had children too, sorry i forgot to mention that. And yes thats what i thought about too, i cant imagine what that did to her body.

i think it should stay but i am pro-life. i think it should stay because i feel too many women would go else where to get an abortion and it will not be the best sterial environment or situation...and that is scary
However, I do think they need more restrictions on Roe v. Wade especially about partial birth abortions and maybe set an age limit I know that might be bad but honestly should our 14 yr old daughters be getting abortions?? And if my daughter was 14 yrs old getting an abortion I would like to know before hand it is such an emotional procedure to go through.
You are so right. I think it scares me more about what would happen if abortion is made illegal and then people start trying to do them on their own. Don't you need a parental consent to have an abortion now? If not that is scary. I just wouldnt want abortion to turn as another form of birth control.
exactly it is scary to think that abortions could be another form of birth control. one of my friends told me her good friends from school had 3 abortions by the time she was 23 that is disgusting and shameful how could anyone not realize they need to use PROTECTION while having sex...
i think its sad that people use it as a form of birth control because you are undergoing a medical procedure that would have been unecessary if you used protection (although, sometimes protection doesnt work!) i dont think its disgusting or shameful though, that is that person's choice - she has to live with herself everday, and if she is comfortable with her decision than so be it....some people are irresponsible and some people actually are responsible and still end up having an unwanted pregnancy - either way it happens if you dont want to continue with the pregnancy and become a parent (which is a very serious decision) then i dont see the big deal in terminating - and to me, if a fetus can't survive on its own than its really just a parasite to the mothers body - yea it has potential to live outside the womb if it continues to grow longer, but hey, its your body, your conscience (sp?), i think you should be able to do what you want with it.... thats just how i feel....some people may be horrified by that but to me it doesnt matter what other people do....i only care about myself
yes i understand completely what you are saying about having an abortion and it not being disgusting or shameful...and i agree with that to some extend. i would never have one because i would feel disgusting and shameful. BUT this girl I am talking about had 3 by the time she was 23 not because of good reasons- she just NEVER used protection and was sleeping around with SOOO MANY people. And that is what is disgusting to me, of course it's her body, her decisions. BUT when you are not even trying to protect yourself (she said she didnt like the feeling so just never used any) you have to know that it might end in a pregnancy and I don't think you should be allowed to use abortions as a form of birth control which this girl was obviously doing. I mean take some responsibility for your actions at some point. JMO
but I do see what you mean Nicole.
i agree - that girl sounds like she doesnt have any self respect for herself to not even want to use protection....
some people are nuts....you would think after having to go through it once you would be careful so you would never have to do it again - plus it cant be good for you to keep aborting.....what happens when one day you want to have a child? you are running the risk of something happening during one of the many procedures you are having that may cause you to be infertile....

I am pro-choice but anti-abortion. I hate the idea of abortions and think they should be as rare as possible, but I don't think that I am in a position to take that decision away from other people. Hopefully it is a careful decision made by a woman with her family and her doctor, not by politicians.
In my opinion, education would benefit everyone. Real comprehensive sex ed that teaches young people about pregnancy AND contraception (i don't think abstinance only sex ed is effective) and increased accessability to birth control. Also, education about and accessability to emergency contraception which is not the same thing as an abortion (it will not affect an already existing pregnancy) but could minimize the number of abortions that occur.
Edit: I would uphold Roe v. Wade

denise i think you are right about needing parental consent....at least it would make the parents aware that their child had sex and maybe they can talk to them about using birth control or abstaining in the future...i also think its sad though that some kids cant go to their parents...that is the worst....that if whether or not you want to have the baby knowing that your parents will disagree with your decision and judge you - i cant imagine that

i agree more sex ed, more accesability to birth control and accessability to emergency contraception...this country i think is very sexual - music, tv, movies - its thrown in your face, so i think it should be talked about more at home and in schools....

NOW i know this is one thing MANY people will disagree with me about, and i see the pro's and con's about this but I dont think that clinic's shouldn't take insurance or medicare, or help people in paying for their abortions. I think by not doing so, women would think twice if it was more expensive to have one. I do realize how this can hurt those who dont use this as a form of birth control and dont have the money to get one. BUt maybe then this can apply to those who get it more often, and finally put a stop to it.
In theory that sounds like a great idea, but like you said I think this would really hut the people who dont use abortion as a form of birth control and dont ave the money to get one. I also think those are the same people who would suffer if Roe v. Wade was overturned, because those with money would find a way.
Perhaps a sliding scale based on your income (like planned parenthood already uses) would be a better approach.
I'd rather impose mandatory counseling or some kind of education on birth control etc after an abortion or second abortion, but again it sounds better in theory and may not be that practical.

if you have a history of 2, 3, 4 abortions i dont think it would be so bad to have some kind of sex ed/counseling....they should do the same for people on welfare who have that many kids

thats why it is hard, but thats why i said that it should ONLY apply to those who have had a certain amount of abortions. If its your first time then ok. But maybe medicare should only cover a certain amount of procedures and thats it. Lets say only 5 or 7 or whatever. This way those who dont use it as a form of birth control dont suffer, but those who do use it as a form of birth control will.

I think it should stay the same. It is nobody's business what a woman does with her body. If men could get pregnant it would not be an issue. If you wouldn't have one because you think its wrong thats ok as long as you don't stop someone else from having one.

I think this is a great idea. There are a lot of emotions that will come after having an abortion and sometimes these women have to face it alone. I also think that counseling will be good bc it may prevent future unwanted pregnancies. I do think that BC should be easier for teenagers to get. If they had more preventive options the problem would be greatly reduced. Unfortunately times have changed and we can not expect the younger generation to go from sex-crazed to practicing abstinance.I think so much more can be done to educate them of the risks they face, not only pregancies but STD's as well.

nobody bite my head for this, because i may be the only one on these boards that feel this way - but i am totally and completely against abortion. Whatever the circumstance, it's murder. Plain & simple. The fetus is alive from the moment it's conceived. Abortion before the first trimester is not at all the same thing as Plan B (which stops the egg from being fertilized). Abortion takes place after the fertilization, therefore stopping the baby from developing (destroying the living being). Girls are actually killing their babies, and for some reason it's okay as long as it's young enough. I've actually done extensive research on this during my teen years, and have found a lot of proof saying that the baby is in fact alive when it's conceived. If I find it, i'll post it on here. But for now, i'll just say that I personally am pro-life. And it makes me really sad to see this happening in our world
Please nobody 'attack' me on this. We're all entitled to our own opinion on things. And I know mine on this sensitive subject will never change.

Very well written. Do you feel in any special circumstance where abortion would be ok such as Rape? Incest? Thank you for writing on the other side of this.

I wont attack you. I dont like abortion either and it makes me sad too. Do you support the death penalty? What about comprehensive sex-ed?
I feel like there are a lot of contradictions out there that don't make sense to me (not talking to you specifically, i have no idea where you stand) where people are against abortions but want to decrease access to emergency contraception and dont want to teach about birth control, which would decrease the need for abortions. I think there are things we could do that would make both sides happy

its ok for feeling the way you do, you shouldn't get attacked bc you are entitled to your own opinion so dont feel bad for voicing it. My dh is also pro-life and against abortion. I do understant how he feels about it and respect his view. BUT my only concern is what happens when abortion is illegal, unfortunately making it illegal will not stop women from getting abortions, if it did then maybe i would feel differently. The problem is that when it is illegal, women go to back alley shady offices to get an abortion and might not even be performed by anybody qualified, the woman can die or have serious damage due to somebody doing a horrible job. Not only that but my parents grew up in a country where abortion was illegal. And i have heard SOOO many horror stories. During that time there were black market abortion pills, alot of women were also using crazy methods such as hangers to do the job themselves. This is my concern bc the reality is that this will happen, if in the 70's they had black market abortion pills you can only imagine what they would come up with now. There were women who did die bc of the extreme measures they took to do so. Theres even a movie about this, i think its called 4 walls, i saw it a long time ago. And it goes through 4 periods in time and its regarding abortion and they show how when it was illegal, women taking extreme measures and the consequences
I tell this to DH but he doesnt want to hear it and says its not true, its just his way to still look right hahaha. So i am asking honestly and not as an attack on you bc i really do respect your views, but i am curious if that effects your decision at all. Not that you would be pro-choice all of a sudden but just about what will happen if it would become illegal.

It's really difficult for me to answer that sort of question. Mostly because I'm not in the situation to be able to understand and 'put myself in their shoes'. When it comes to rape, I totally understand the victim wanting to abort the baby, but I still can't sit here & say that this circumstance makes it okay. I'd be a hypocrite if I did. I feel like, just because the 'biological father' is a sick song of b!tch, it still doesn't (in MY eyes) mean that it's now fine to murder the child. Like I said, it's hard to say 'Oh this is what i would do' when i'm not even IN the circumstance, ya know? But I wish more girls would choose to give their children up for adoption rather than abort them. There are so many couples who want children so badly and just can't have them. I know a few families who adopted and i just have sooo much respect for the birth mother of these precious children. That instead of choosing to end that life she created (which would probably have been so much easier for her), she instead gave her baby to people who DO want that child and will love them in her place.
That's kind of my thoughts on that. Sorry if this upsets anybody. It's just how i feel.

i definitely understand your point! I know that if it was illegal people would still be getting it done. I just had this conversation with my sister the other day. Saying how it would be dumb for abortion to be illegal in, say, New Jersey, but completely fine in New York. It doesn't change anything, people will just come to NY to get it done. So I really don't know where to stand on that. I just know that I can't, on good conscience, say that i want abortion legalized. I personally, can't handle abortion, but if I were to actually take a stand on whether to make it illegal or not, I'd have to do a lot more research. Because i know you're right - people would still be getting it done. Just like how certain drugs are illegal or whatever. People still find a way to get it.
Thank you for respecting my views on this though. I appreciate it.

I just have to say this post has helped me for school, lol.
I need to write a policy brief about an issue I would want a school administrator to look at. My topic is SEX EDUCATION/BIRTH CONTROL Distrubution in schools, like middle and high schools.....
this has definitely helped me put a focus on my paper and makes me happy that people are concerened about sex educ in schools!!
