i just think of scenarios - like say i have a child and then in 2 years i have another - and what if that 2nd child is special needs - and what if my husband and i are having a difficult time raising two children - money is tight, things are hectic, say its the worst case scenario - and then, even though im taking birth control i find out i am pregnant with a third child - and the two we have are already a handful - and i feel that if i have a third baby it will take attention away from my 2 children that i already have - and in this worst case scenario say 1 or lets say both of my children that i have are special needs kids - well to be honest, if i was in those shoes, i might chose not to continue with that pregnancy - so i always try to visualize myself in a predicament where i might be the person who needs access to a doctor - but now i can't find one because its illegal - and now i have to have a child that i cant afford, and now i have to worry about how will i take care of the two children i already have....so that to me, is a scenario where i dont think the person would be wrong for not wanting to continue with that pregnancy.....does that make sense? even if i dont believe in something i always try to put myself on the other side, in the shoes of someone, to try and figure out how or why they would do it....kwim?
I understand what you are saying and its true, you never know what scenario you will be in. BUT like i said i am pro-choice, i am not saying these things don't happen. Like i said before, yes sometimes condoms dont work, yes sometimes birth control doesn't work. Yes mistakes happen that you try to avoid. But lets be honest and say that majority of abortions are not bc of this reason. It is bc of careless actions and some do view abortion as a form of birth control. I am criticizing those that have 7, 8, 10 abortions and dont learn and believe it or not there are alot of women who have had quite a few abortions. You are talking about extreme cases, yes those things can happen thats why i believe in pro-choice. But at the same time we have to look at the facts. Women are having many abortions bc they STILL refuse to use a condom or go on birth control and really just are not that careful. I am NOT fighting against pro-choice and saying it should NEVER happen. I know sometimes women are put in very difficult situations and it is their choice. But i am sick and tired of those who really have no excuse and i hate to say but out of everybody i know who has had abortions, no scenario was bc of a sick child, or anything extreme, while i am sure it does happen, percentage wise it is alot less than those who just do it for the wrong reasons. But the law still should remain for those who are put into horrible scenarios.

no i was stupid about it i was gonna have an abortion with my second child but i saw his sonogram and he was blowing bubbles and tryna swin all over the place and i coulnt do it but i didnt take any birth control methods wait no i did use birth control but it made my haed hurt and i stopped
that must have been a tough decision for you. Do you use birth control now? I'm assuming you were on the pill before if it gave you headaches? There are non-hormonal forms of birth control too, like condoms, which might be a better choice for you.

i guess its different when you know reasons why people would do it that to me, are reasons that make sense and are smart reasons - maybe not what some would consider morally right but not because they were being irresponsible, or using it as birth control and to think that right can be taken away scares me....i think that people who take advantage of the procedure arent really what the thread was meant to discuss i think it was more of a yes or no question hahahaha and we went off on a million tangents....even one strange one where bugs were mentioned unfortunately i have to go back to work now - this thread kept me on way too long!!! besides, im not good at proving points or arguing anyways hahahahaha

i dont understand why people care what other people do though - thats what bothers me - its like why do you want to take away somebodys right to choose what they want to do with their body? whether you think its murder or not its not your business kwim? and what bothers me is that alot of the pro-life people provide false info about abortion - like the size of the fetus, they say fetus screams, someone just said the fetus moves away - the fetus moving away is just a natural reflex - it doesnt know what is about to happen - but they make it try to sound like the fetus is running away or something (not the person who posted, im talking about the pro life protestors) they use pictures of older fetuses on their posters - and things like that annoy me - at least use real facts if you are going to protest....
I try not to care and I have many friends who have had abortions. Ive even supported them and was there for them. It was their choice and they made mistakes. Thats okay in my eyes. But what is the reason for a LATE term abortion when theres nothing wrong with the fetus or the mothers life is in danger? Did the person decide last minute they didnt want the child?? It just doesnt make sense. A child can survive outside the womb at 6 months. It just really nauseates me. If someone is capable of aborting a healthy 6 month old fetus I dont know what else theyre capable of.
i dont agree with aborting after a fetus can survive outside the womb either - unless it is to save the mother or if its because there is something wrong with the baby that will cause it to be stillborn/die.....
but women, (not just young girls) get pregnant and abort all the time - even older women that already had kids and are close to our parents ages abort - say i got pregnant in my 40's and my kids are all almost grown up - to be honest, id probably abort.....its not just teens that are 'irresponsible' that abort but unfortunately because its so taboo women dont talk about abortion.....its not just teens - its married couples too, older women, women of all ages....i just wanted to say that before i forgot
yeah and thats even crazier to me because older people preach to teens all the time and then assume they cant get pregnant themselves. For Gods sake, there are ways to prevent getting pregnant. Ive done it for almost 8 YEARS!! 8 YEARS and not one false alarm because I refuse to make a mistake. Its NOT HARD. And Im not including victims of rape, Im talking about people in relationships who think that one time they dont use a condom wont affect them. When I was off the pill and DH tried to jump my bones I practically kicked him in his nuts.
I agree with you..it kind of baffles me...I know it does happen, but I have also managed to not get preggers ( Knocking on wood now) , being on the pill for 10 years and I am just very careful...when I used antibiotics I used back up etc. . I feel like it is almost foolproof if you use BC properly all the time..knocking on wood again.....

i really do think its fool proof if you follow the instructions and are diligent. Its a responsibility and it takes effort. Its something people should not get LAZY with. Im guilty of that at times. I have been lazy with it and have even messed up and not used back up. So maybe Im just lucky but I know my risks. KNOCK ON WOOD FOR ME TOO!

If something does happen and the condom breaks etc there is plan b/emergency contraception which you can take up to 72 hours out (it's more effective the earlier you take it) that will prevent pregnancy. it is not an abortion, if you are already pg it wont terminate the pregnancy, but it is a backup if something happens that would prevent an unwanted pregnancy from occurring.
many doctors will write you a prescription after the fact (like, after you call and say the condom broke) but the new head of my college's health program was a big proponent of emergency contraception and would discreetly write a prescription in advance so students could hold onto it and have it ready if they were ever in that situation.... so it would be easier to get it early and without a hassle if the need arose.
i've never used EC or got a prescription for it (i'm on the pill) but I was trained as an EC advocate when i was in college, and was on a list of names that were available to help give students info and accompany them if they were scared to go alone, so i'm a big proponent of having people aware that it's out there.

Like I said a milliong times, proper birth control is doing a handstand after sex and pouring coca cola down your Vag.

Re: NWR: What do you think about...
since i'm not such a huge fan of seeing a rise in coat hanger abortions, babies in dumpsters, and women dying of terrible infections from botched procedures, i'm gonna say it should stick.
it's a personal decision. the way to deal with it is to educate and provide options to young people.
