NWR: What do you think about...

Roe vs. Wade? Should it be overturned or should it stay.

Please lets be respectful to each others opinions when we answer.

Stay the same but i think it should have a little more control. Like I dont agree with late term abortions unless it is to save the mother's life.

i think it should stay but i am pro-life. i think it should stay because i feel too many women would go else where to get an abortion and it will not be the best sterial environment or situation...and that is scary

However, I do think they need more restrictions on Roe v. Wade especially about partial birth abortions and maybe set an age limit I know that might be bad but honestly should our 14 yr old daughters be getting abortions?? And if my daughter was 14 yrs old getting an abortion I would like to know before hand it is such an emotional procedure to go through.

You are so right. I think it scares me more about what would happen if abortion is made illegal and then people start trying to do them on their own.
Don't you need a parental consent to have an abortion now? If not that is scary. I just wouldnt want abortion to turn as another form of birth control.

I think it should stay the same in terms of allowing a woman the right to choose. I do believe there should be more sex education in schools so that maybe the need for young girls getting abortions could be lessened.

It should stay the same. I think they already are not allowing abortions past the first trimester, right? Only in extreme cases where its a matter of life or death for the mother.

I also agree with you catie on why it should not become illegal. Those are my exact reasons and have spoken about them. Making it illegal will not stop women from having them. They will go elsewhere and have the procedure performed by those who are not qualified to do it, in shady unsanitary places that can hurt the mother. Also in the 70's there were black market abortion pills in countries where it was illegal, so now in our day and age they would have even more black market abortion pills to do so.

i think girls 14 years and younger should def be able to get abortions - they are the ones who i believe need them the most - what 14 year old can raise a child? they can't....i think that children under the age of 16 or 18 should need some kind of parental consent, im not sure how each state works, i dont think you need parental consent in NY but im probably wrong....and i dont think abortion is just something young girls do either - i think women of all ages have their reasons for wanting one.....whether you believe its wrong or right as a woman i think it would be foolish to want to abolish it - like catie said, she is pro life but she is right, women would still get them done illegally and it would be dangerous....i think its a womans choice - and i like how obama put it yesterday - its something a woman should be able to discuss with their family, doctors and religious advisers and she should be able to make the decision.....

However, agreeing or disagreeing with Roe v. Wade is a very open ended question

Roe v. Wade is not JUST about being legal. There is much more too it and I do believe there needs to be some 'updates'

I think this part needs to be clarified or changed:

Roe v. Wade centrally held that a mother may abort her pregnancy for any reason, up until the 'point at which the fetus becomes ‘viable.’' The Court defined viable as being potentially able to live outside the mother's womb, albeit with artificial aid. Viability usually occurs at about seven months (28 weeks) but may occur earlier, even at 24 weeks.'[1] The Court also held that abortion after viability must be available when needed to protect a woman's health, which the Court defined broadly in the companion case of Doe v. Bolton. These rulings affected laws in 46 states

exactly it is scary to think that abortions could be another form of birth control. one of my friends told me her good friends from school had 3 abortions by the time she was 23 that is disgusting and shameful how could anyone not realize they need to use PROTECTION while having sex...

i think its sad that people use it as a form of birth control because you are undergoing a medical procedure that would have been unecessary if you used protection (although, sometimes protection doesnt work!) i dont think its disgusting or shameful though, that is that person's choice - she has to live with herself everday, and if she is comfortable with her decision than so be it....some people are irresponsible and some people actually are responsible and still end up having an unwanted pregnancy - either way it happens if you dont want to continue with the pregnancy and become a parent (which is a very serious decision) then i dont see the big deal in terminating - and to me, if a fetus can't survive on its own than its really just a parasite to the mothers body - yea it has potential to live outside the womb if it continues to grow longer, but hey, its your body, your conscience (sp?), i think you should be able to do what you want with it.... thats just how i feel....some people may be horrified by that but to me it doesnt matter what other people do....i only care about myself

unfortunately some people do use it as a form of birth control, and some women they should stop after a while. You think thats bad, my mom once had a young girl working for her, she was in her early 20's BUT my mom was shocked when the girl told her she had about 15 abortions, and even while she worked for my mom she had a couple of abortions I seriously couldn't even believe it. My mom kept even asking her how it was possible bc of how young she was and was trying to figure out how many she would have a year. Its horrible and i would've hoped that after a certain amount they wouldn't allow you anymore.

Theres other women too whose numbers are 7 abortions, 8 abortions, 10 abortions.

awwww i still wouldn't call it a parasite to the mothers body. And really shouldn't be considered a parasite to the mother when it was her actions that got her in that situation. A fetus does have brain development early on and does have signs of being alive. So no matter how early on it is, i would never consider it a parasite. When i get pregnant, in the first trimester i wont consider it a parasite in me haha.

yes i understand completely what you are saying about having an abortion and it not being disgusting or shameful...and i agree with that to some extend. i would never have one because i would feel disgusting and shameful. BUT this girl I am talking about had 3 by the time she was 23 not because of good reasons- she just NEVER used protection and was sleeping around with SOOO MANY people. And that is what is disgusting to me, of course it's her body, her decisions. BUT when you are not even trying to protect yourself (she said she didnt like the feeling so just never used any) you have to know that it might end in a pregnancy and I don't think you should be allowed to use abortions as a form of birth control which this girl was obviously doing. I mean take some responsibility for your actions at some point. JMO

omg i wouldnt consider it a parasite when DH and I have a baby....

if i got raped - and a pregnancy resulted from it - i think i actually would consider it a parasite and i think i would want it out of me.....

at least that is how i *THINK* i woulfd feel - i dont think anyone knows until they are pregnant how they would feel.....

but yeah i wouldnt think of it as a parasite if FH got me pregnant - but that is b/c i love my FH and i want a child with him - if he was a one night stand, or a rapist, i probably would feel differently

That can not be healthy to that girl. there is no way that you can tell me that after having 10 procedures that her reproductive organs are the same. Who knows if by the time this girl and others like her want to have children if they even can. DH is a teacher and he told me about 6th graders getting abortions that to me is sad. Where is the sex education? These poor kids are making adult decisions while they are still children.

it is very true, and sadly i think that is more the truth of what is happening. Yes a woman can STILL get pregnant even with a condom, it can break. Yes a woman can still get pregnant while on birth control if she takes other medication that interracts with it. But lets be serious and say the percentage of this happening is low. MOST women who get pregnant its bc they didnt use protection, compared to the number of women who did get pregnant while using protection, i am sure the difference percentage wise is huge.

I do NOT think young girls under the age of 18 should get one without a parents permission. I think the fact that they know they don't need a parents permission makes them think they can continue to have unprotected sex and abortion is always an option in case anything happens. If parents needed to give their kids permission, then I think this would scare teenagers a bit more and make them think twice and protect themselves more, in fear of their parents finding out.

Some might disagree with me, but after a certain amount of abortions I think that somebody has to step in and speak to these women and tell them that you cant have another abortion and encourage them to go on birth control.

NOW i know this is one thing MANY people will disagree with me about, and i see the pro's and con's about this but I dont think that clinic's shouldn't take insurance or medicare, or help people in paying for their abortions. I think by not doing so, women would think twice if it was more expensive to have one. I do realize how this can hurt those who dont use this as a form of birth control and dont have the money to get one. BUt maybe then this can apply to those who get it more often, and finally put a stop to it.
