nobody bite my head for this, because i may be the only one on these boards that feel this way - but i am totally and completely against abortion. Whatever the circumstance, it's murder. Plain & simple. The fetus is alive from the moment it's conceived. Abortion before the first trimester is not at all the same thing as Plan B (which stops the egg from being fertilized). Abortion takes place after the fertilization, therefore stopping the baby from developing (destroying the living being). Girls are actually killing their babies, and for some reason it's okay as long as it's young enough. I've actually done extensive research on this during my teen years, and have found a lot of proof saying that the baby is in fact alive when it's conceived. If I find it, i'll post it on here. But for now, i'll just say that I personally am pro-life. And it makes me really sad to see this happening in our world
Please nobody 'attack' me on this. We're all entitled to our own opinion on things. And I know mine on this sensitive subject will never change.
its ok for feeling the way you do, you shouldn't get attacked bc you are entitled to your own opinion so dont feel bad for voicing it. My dh is also pro-life and against abortion. I do understant how he feels about it and respect his view. BUT my only concern is what happens when abortion is illegal, unfortunately making it illegal will not stop women from getting abortions, if it did then maybe i would feel differently. The problem is that when it is illegal, women go to back alley shady offices to get an abortion and might not even be performed by anybody qualified, the woman can die or have serious damage due to somebody doing a horrible job. Not only that but my parents grew up in a country where abortion was illegal. And i have heard SOOO many horror stories. During that time there were black market abortion pills, alot of women were also using crazy methods such as hangers to do the job themselves. This is my concern bc the reality is that this will happen, if in the 70's they had black market abortion pills you can only imagine what they would come up with now. There were women who did die bc of the extreme measures they took to do so. Theres even a movie about this, i think its called 4 walls, i saw it a long time ago. And it goes through 4 periods in time and its regarding abortion and they show how when it was illegal, women taking extreme measures and the consequences
I tell this to DH but he doesnt want to hear it and says its not true, its just his way to still look right hahaha. So i am asking honestly and not as an attack on you bc i really do respect your views, but i am curious if that effects your decision at all. Not that you would be pro-choice all of a sudden but just about what will happen if it would become illegal.
i definitely understand your point! I know that if it was illegal people would still be getting it done. I just had this conversation with my sister the other day. Saying how it would be dumb for abortion to be illegal in, say, New Jersey, but completely fine in New York. It doesn't change anything, people will just come to NY to get it done. So I really don't know where to stand on that. I just know that I can't, on good conscience, say that i want abortion legalized. I personally, can't handle abortion, but if I were to actually take a stand on whether to make it illegal or not, I'd have to do a lot more research. Because i know you're right - people would still be getting it done. Just like how certain drugs are illegal or whatever. People still find a way to get it.
Thank you for respecting my views on this though. I appreciate it.
It is true, people can also travel to another place where abortion is legal. It is hard if you are against abortion and even knowing the consequences if it became illegal, to change your mind. I think my dh also see's truth in what i say but at the same time he will not say he feels abortion should be legal. He feels if you make a mistake you deal with your mistake and take responsbility for it, you do not kill a baby bc of your own mistakes. I can respect him on those views even though i am pro-choice.

It should remain as is. I am pro choice. That is my opinion and I respect other people's opinions. If our courts were to overturn this decision there would be too many woman turning back to alternative solutions as they did many years ago. The results were heinous and caused more harm.

It should remain no doubt about it. I do not think LATE TERM abortion should be legal. Thats just disgusting to me. At that point have the child and give it up for adoption.

can you tell me where? Bc i am curious to know, i know in EXTREME cases where the mother is in danger of her health they will do this but otherwise from what i know, most places will not allow it past the first trimester. Is there any facts or links you can show us that say this.

Some people do not consider it a life because the fetus cannot survive on its own. Im with you when you say it is a life. I feel it is a life once I conceive. I dont care if its the size of a bean. If you dont abort it, 9 months later it will be alive. BUT I dont judge anyone and if they can live with themselves after making a choice like this, then that is on them. I dont think the right should be taken away for the simple fact women will go back to finding alternate means to get rid of it. and that would be 100 times worse.

I am 150% pro-choice. With that said, I believe that social workers/mental health counselors/psychiatrists/psychologists MUST be involved. I feel that women should be evaluated for mental stability and state of mind as well as the cognitive understanding of the situation and implications of the situation, procedure, etc. I believe a meeting before a decision is made should be required as well as following the decision. Psychologically, either decision has significant impacts and I believe that's ignored.

I said this before on another thread but I was misinformed about third trimester abortions until I took a college class on contemporary women's health. Third trimester/late-term abortions are extremely rare, and don't really happen 'just because the woman decides she doesnt want a baby anymore'
They happen in 3 pretty discrete circumstances: 1) The baby is already dead, and the woman doesn't want to carry around a dead baby and waiting to go into labor while getting comments from bystanders congratulating her etc. 2) the baby has severe developmental defects that will cause it to die shortly after birth; 3) the mother's life is at risk.
I'm not saying that I think the woman should have an abortion in those situations, but my dad's mother had a very high-risk pregnancy and died in childbirth with his brother so these are very real situations.

yeah and i think many doctors would not even do it if it were legal ya know.
And the whole thing about the baby moving away if its 9 months doesnt make sense bc partial birth is not done the same way a regular abortion is done in the first trimester.
They do not just use the machine to suck it out, so horrible to say but the way its done. You ACTUALLY will give birth to an unborn child. They kill the child first, i think through some saline injection or something and then you vaginally deliver the unborn child. That is what partial birth is.
Here is some info on it, its on a law site
9) Partial-birth abortion means an abortion procedure in which the person performing the abortion partially delivers vaginally a living unborn child before killing the unborn child and completing the delivery. For purposes of this subdivision, the term partially delivers vaginally a living unborn child before killing the unborn child means deliberately and intentionally delivering into the vagina a living unborn child, or a substantial portion thereof, for the purpose of performing a procedure that the person performing such procedure knows will kill the unborn child and does kill the unborn child.
§ 28-328. Partial-birth abortion; prohibition; violation; penalties. (1) No partial-birth abortion shall be performed in this state, unless such procedure is necessary to save the life of the mother whose life is endangered by a physical disorder, physical illness, or physical injury, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself.
(2) The intentional and knowing performance of an unlawful partial-birth abortion in violation of subsection (1) of this section is a Class III felony.

Given your experience having a kid at age 14, and one at age 16, what do you think can and should be done to decrease the number of teen pregnancies?

They dont happen now unless the mother is in danger or it's absolutely necessary. Most proposed bans on third-trimester abortions just eliminate the mother's choice when her life is at risk, or force her to carry around a child she know is dead or will die shortly after birth.
It sounds horrible to say you are 'in favor' of late-term abortions, but given the circumstances in which they occur I am in favor of a woman's right to choose in those situations... which are really the only situations where they occur
