NWR: What does everyone...

Wear to work? And what kind of atmosphere do you work in?

I start my new (first really) full time job in 3 weeks. I'm a middle management position working at a Y. There are senior level people at my site, as well as high school and college part time staff, and kids (I will be the program director for programs for kids with autism)

Need some ideas about how I should dress and what kind of stuff should be stocking up on!

When i was a Teaching Asst, I started the year off dressing nicely... not too crazy, but a skirt when it was nice... black pants or khakis... that's it...

I slowly but steadily moved to jeans and sneakers (I was on my feet ALLLLL day)

Now as a sub, I try to dress like I did in the beginnings of all my TA years!!!

It sounds like you might wnt to be a little bit more professional than a lowly TA or a sub.... So i would say no jeans or sneakers but maybe you could do the black pants/nice outfits a little more casually than a big office exec... (meaning I don't think you need suits -- at least not daily)

oh, also, you definitely want some comfortable shoes... they make very stylish comfortable ones now... dansko, clarks, and sofft are my faves....

ballet flats
express or br tee shirt/tank top made out of nice material

see but I've always been so excited to wear grown up clothes to work. i bet you after the first week i'm gonna be dyiiiing to be in yoga pants

scrubs around patients.. non-patient days.. anything i want. shorts, legigngs, dresses, sweats. always in flipflops. if im stressed i sit indian style in my chair barefoot

Depends on what I have to do. If it's just a normal day, either jeans, a nice shirt, and heels, or jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers. If I'm in court, slacks, a nice shirt, and heels.

My job is VERY casual unless I have to go to court.

yeah im no help lol. suit. every day except friday. im a lawyer.
fridays if i'm feeling daring i might wear a cute dress with leggings or non-suit pants and a sweater/short sleeved shirt

problem for me is i look like im 10 so on business casual days i sometimes look a little ridiculous in a law office. usually i don't care.

I work in the theatre industry, so even though I work in an H.R. supportive position, it's still a creatively-charged environment and I can be a bit more relaxed with my attire than in other H.R. jobs I've had.

Generally speaking, I wear khaki-style (but not khaki-colored, because I spill things all the time) pants with nice dressy tees and a cardigan if it's chilly. That's an easy go-to in the morning if I don't want to think about what I'm wearing.

But...some mornings I need to step out of that routine and wear something slightly nutty. They're cool with me wearing an array of old-school Courtney Love style babydoll dresses with my Docs or maryjanes or occasionally Converse, so I don't dress like that ALL the time, but I'd say that once it's warm enough for me to leave the house in it, once or twice a week I'll dress a bit more funky.

But never jeans. We're not allowed

i wear dress pants or skirts with nice tops and a cardigan if it's chilly in the office. or i'll wear a dress with a cardigan. jeans are only allowed on fridays. all of my clothes are from ann taylor loft or banana republic lol.

I want a job where I can wear jeans!!!!

I work at a college so I pretty much wear dress pants and a nice top everyday. Think Ann Taylor Loft. Boo.

But for you I think i would stock up on nice kahki's. That way you are still dressed up but a little sporty too.

If I could sweat pants to work every day, it would be my dream job. I wear the same thing every week, flats, dress pants, I have them in every color and either a sweater or button down collared shirt. I never wear dresses, skirts, high heels, not my thing..

I always wear dress pants (usually from express or the limited) with a cardigan (banana republic, nordstroms, Ann Taylor or Ann Taylor Loft) and a plain tank under it. Ill wear some sort of low heel to be comfortable. On Fridays I will wear nice jeans, ballet flats and a sweater or cardigan.
