Re: NWR: Wisdom Teeth

I had mine removed a year and a half ago and I wont lie. Its not fun. But everyone is different. I think you should take them all out at the same time. I would have never gone back if I did it separately. You have to make sure you ice A LOT or your face will balloon. I wasnt on top of the icing so i did swell a little but the pain subsided after about 4 days. Some people feel better sooner some later. Good luck.

Re: NWR: Wisdom Teeth

Agreed. Do them all at once.
It *****! I have friends and family who felt better 1-3 days later. My face blew up like a chipmunk and was out of work for almost two weeks.

Re: NWR: Wisdom Teeth

I had my wisdom teeth pulled (all 4 at once), and I wasn't in that much pain. I was absolutely fine the next day. I think it all depends on the person and your tolerance for pain.

Re: NWR: Wisdom Teeth

I agree with the previous posters. I had all 4 of mine done at once (bottom 2 were impacted, top 2 just needed to be pulled). I NEVER would have gone back for the second two had I not done them all at once.

true..put it very much depends on how impacted they are are how long and twisted the roots are...its much easier to extract a tooth thats half out then one thats completely impacted with extra long roots

Re: NWR: Wisdom Teeth

I had two pulled on one side, one week before my sister's wedding in which i was MOH and the week after had the other two pulled. I would do 2 at a time, i cant imagine the pain.

I felt so sick and nausea when i had them pulled.

What about if the wisdom teeth are already completely in? Is that bad too? I am afraid to get mine pulled, I still have all 4 and they are all completely grown in!!!

Re: NWR: Wisdom Teeth

I unfortunately had to have one side done and then the other side at a later date. Though, I had impacted teeth and needed emergency oral surgery both times since I couldn't open my mouth I only had a little swelling the next day both times. Good luck! Have them put you to sleep if it's an option - it makes the whole process sooo much easier to deal with.

Some people never have to have their wisdom teeth removed if their mouths have enough space to house them. So don't worry unless you start to feel pain!

Re: NWR: Wisdom Teeth

I had one pulled without being knocked out because my insurance wouldn't cover the anesthesia.....I do not recommend this!!!! Very traumatizing!!! A few months later I went back and had the anesthesia and got the 3 other teeth pulled. Even if your insurance wont cover anesthesia get it! And if you can, get them pulled all at the same time. You will be a little swollen and in some pain but its not that bad. Good luck!

U agree with getting anesthesia! It was the best experience ever! (well not literally but you know what I mean lol) You wont feel a thing! also my recommendation... by a bag of frozen peas! I used them as an ice pack and slept with them on my face... For some reason the regular ice pack just wasn't as comfortable, maybe it was something with how the peas move I dont know.... So I just kept refreezing and reusing... it was cheap and great! Best of luck!!! you will be fine!

Re: NWR: Wisdom Teeth

Everyone is different. I had mine done in 1997 (oh geez, 12 years ago?!?!) and for me, it wasn't bad at all. I couldn't really eat solid food for the first week b/c the stitches hurt, but I had very little pain and no swelling.

Just ice it for a few hours (10 mins on, 10 mins off) after you get home to reduce any swelling you might have.

ETA: I had all 4 done at once. They knocked me out. When I woke up, it felt like 15 seconds had passed but I had a mouth full of gauze.

Re: NWR: Wisdom Teeth

From stories I've heard, it def depends on if it's impacted or not.

I've had two of mine taken out at two seperate times without being knocked out - just novocaine. I was SOOO nervous about it the first time I went - and he was done in literally like 5 minutes. I think I actually said, 'That's it?'

If you don't get knocked out it doesn't hurt, but it's def gross and uncomfrtable. But I'm the biggest baby ever and if I can do it you can!

Re: NWR: Wisdom Teeth

It will hurt and your face will blow up. Keep ice on it and enjoy the prescription pain meds.

Re: NWR: Wisdom Teeth

I had mine pulled in Oct... definitely not fun and I would suggest doing them all at once and getting it over with.

Also, ask the doctor for valium and laughing gas, they really help. I also had my ipod on while they were doing it which helped a lot with unpleasant sounds.

And stock up on a lot of ice cream for after the procedure!

Good luck!

Re: NWR: Wisdom Teeth

I had mine out a month ago, and it wasn't all that bad. They came out easily, and I highly recommend Dr. Capuano of Port Jeff Station. Honestly, he was so good that the worst part of the extraction was the shot of novicaine. He tells you what he is doing step by step, and you hear this awful crunching noise, and they are out in seconds. Two of mine were impacted, but the whole thing took less than 15 minutes. If yours might take longer to remove, you may want to opt for the sweet air or anesthesia, but I was totally fine with the novicaine. I would recommend getting all 4 out at once if you are going to do any. Afterwards, it is essential to ice exactly as directed (crushed ice or frozen peas work best), and you will have minimal swelling. Get the perscription filled immediately after getting them pulled, and take it as soon as you get home. You will feel minimal pain this way. The timeline for pain is different for everyone. I was on the vicadin for two doses to get me through the first night, and I was off of the ibuprofin with in 2 days.

Good luck!
