NWR: Your dream job (a realistic one)

If you could do it all over, what would you be? I don't mean astronauts or movie stars, but a real job that you wish you had chosen instead.

I think I would have been either a nurse or a teacher. (NOT an accountant).

But I don't have the time or money to change that now, so it is what it is.

What would you be?

ETA: Also include what you do now!

I am very fortunate and (and it took hard work too) but I am doing what I love. I dreamed of working in the entertainment business, and thats where I ended up right out of college.

On the side I am a writer, and I think someday Id love to be a writer for a major magazine or newspaper. I've done freelance here and there but nothing permanent

What is it that you do?

Re: NWR: Your dream job (a realistic one)

I wish I had gone with my first dream which was to become a Doctor. I regret not doing it, but I was young and wanted to party and got scared of it....now I wish i had gone for it. I had taken all my science and math courses except for Physics and was starting to prepare for the MCAT and I decided it wasn't for me.

Another regret is what I chose to do after I decided not to pursue a medical career. I could either have continued in languages (Spanish, Italian and French), but instead I went for COmmunications.

At this point in my life I'm a contractor using my Spanish skills, kind of dating my career choice. I have a Masters of Science in Intergrated Marketing from NYU. Usually I'm comeptetive with MBA'ers. However It just doens't make me happy anymore.

Part of me has been thinking of going back to school and either going into teaching (language and ESL) or going back and becoming a medical tech of some sort (sonogram, radiology, etc.). Another dream job would be to refine my linguistic skills and become an interpreter. it's just hard to do anything now because financially i would take a pay cut and Fh adn I can't afford that.

Sorry for the length...something I've been thinking a lot about lately.

maybe a teacher

or I should have gone to school for PR

I would love to one day own my own event design business!!!!

I did do a little acting for awhile, and while I loooove it, I needed to be making money and it takes awhile to do that with acting. And if I got famous, I dont think I'd do well with paparazi. I'd be the crazy celeb that would get arrested for hitting them. LOL.

Veterinarian

Although I do believe movie star or singer are realistic jobs...

Yes, for some people it may be. I think I meant a job you would seriously consider as an adult, not something you necessarily dreamed about as a little kid, before you knew what it really entailed, etc.

I see what you mean. But for me its something I dreamed about as a child and as an adult Im still pursuing it. It actually has become a very realistic pursuit for me too. I know its not the norm for many people though...

I know plenty of people who are adults in their late 20's early 30's who pursue this and do very well with it. So I do think it is a realistic job for a lot of people!! But it is very very competitive and hard work!! Good for you for sticking to it!!

Fashion Designer ( I worked in the industry for over 4 years as a Regional Sales Assistant and somehow I am no longer in it)

Currently- Receptionist for a Big Bank (don't ask)

Soon to be a stay at home wife

I am going to contact a Head Hunter after the summer

Wonder if we work for the same bank. I'm an Exec Asst and I just happened to land where I am. WAs never really sure what I wanted to do.
I was a travel agent for a while but hated leisure travel, only liked corporate until the internet became so huge. Then I ended up in Customer Service and continued from there and somehow ended up an EA for a big bank. I like the job b/c I do different things but I hate the politics and red tape it takes to get anything done. Not to mention constantly worrying about being unemployed.

I think I'd like to be a Veterinarian or a teacher.

I work in Stamford CT. The politics in this industry are awful (very cut throat where I work). It makes you feel very uncomfortable and unsettled. Too bad I have awful allergies I love animals also.
