So at my office we are allowed to decorate for the holidays. Now just as in any office there are some people here that celebrate Christmas, Haunakka, Kwanza etc.
Now there is one person on my floor who is Catholic and placed a nativity scene by their desk..it is not exactly on their desk it is sitting on top of the filling cabinets that are right next to her desk. A person who sits near me was complaining before that she was not Catholic so that offends her. And she said that the person who put that up should take it down and just decorate for Christmas. I told her well you are Jewish should you and the rest of the people here who are Jewish take down their manurah's (sp? sorry)?
Then I said and also Christmas is also about Jesus and the birth not just about snowman and santa etc for some people...but they didnt like what i said
WOULD you take offense or what do you think??

I would never take offense to anyones religious beliefs. That woman just sounds ignorant saying she should decorate with christmas stuff... HELLO that is what Christmas is all about!!!
i second that!

I wasn't offended by the family driving on the belt parkway yesterday with the giant menorah on the roof of ther car -- with the proper amount of bulbs light!
OMG! I saw a minivan with a huge menorah attached to the roof yesterday on the Southern State Pkwy near Bethpage. They were heading east.

i would definitely NOT be offended. last time i checked we lived in a country where we have freedom of speech. people should be able to display their religious beliefts in whatever way they would like. i am fine with nativity sets, menorahs, trees, lights, etc.
however, in order to be 'politically correct' now you can't do anything without 'offending' someone. you can't have a Nativity without putting up a menorah. you can't have a Christmas tree, it has to be a 'holiday' tree. it's ridiculous in my opinion.
Also, as a devout Catholic I find it all so sad, really. Christmas has become so commercialized and devoid of its true meaning. no offense to people of other religions, but Christmas is the second most important holiday in the Christian faith and we can't have a nativity scene without people making a fuss??? it's nuts. . .

Honestly, I think she is overreacting a little bit. If someone celebrates a holiday and you are allowed to decorate, then everyone should be able to decorate however they want.
If this worker celebrates Christmas, then she should be able to put a nativity scene on her desk. If someone celebrates Hanukkah (sp?) then that person should be able to put a menorah on their desk, and so on.
No one is pushing their beliefs on anyone by decorating, so I don't see the problem.
