October 03 Brides.......

Original post by mv1003

Where are all of you in your planning?

I'm looking high and low for a dj and a videographer. We got engaged over a year ago and I thought I had all this time... I'm now thinking I wasted so much time

OctBride03 where are you in the planning stages?

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been MIA lately.... the weekend is hard- and yesterday I was off- YIPPEE. Went out to lunch w/ a friend to start celebrating my birthday, which is tomorrow

My Mom flew home and very sad to say, my Nana is failing fast. My Mom doesn't think she'll make it through the week, so I'm leaving for Maine either tomorrow night or Thurs. morning to say good-bye. All I do is sit at my desk and cry when I think about it.

Karen- you've got plenty of time and we're all going to achieve our goals! Good for you bringing the banana & granola!!!! Great start. The first 2 days are the hardest- but then it becomes easier.

Edited to say- Florist Michele for the Flowers - in Huntington. Very reasonable and very nice!
I figure- I didn't look at it as a 'diet'. I looked at it as a change of ways. Like, giving up coke is a change for the better- and coffee. Incorporating more fruits and veggies- a change for the better. Cutting down on fatty foods and deserts- a nice change. Let's keep it up girls! I only went to the gym on Sat. took Sunday to rest- and didn't go yesterday. I'm a little sad. I might go today, just to releive some stress.

Honeymoon- now I don't know. I thought Aruba was perfect, but FH doesn't want to spend any $$. He gave me a limit now, and for that amount, we'll be in Long Island!!! So, I've got to butter him up a little bit and then I'm hitting the drawing board too, he just wants to look at other options too. (why can't it all be our decision?)

Hope to talk to you soon. If I'm not on, it's b/c I went to Maine. Good luck during the week ladies!

MV1003-

Happy Birthday to you!

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother - mine too, is rapidly failing. She's in the hospital with advanced Alzheimer's, and it's just so sad. I remember such a dynamic woman, so full of life - and now I doubt if she'll be around for her only granddaughter's wedding. Just thinking about it now is making me tear up a little.

Keep your chin up!!!!

Re: October 03 Brides.......

mv1003, I am sooo sorry to hear about your grandmother! You and your family will be in my thoughts.

Not to get off the topic, but maybe it'll help so you dont have to think about it constantly... have you considered taking a cruise? The Bermuda cruise right out of New York can get pricey, BUT they ALWAYS have specials! ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS!!!! Also, Aruba has the Allegro resorts. They are all-inclusive. Just a little thought.

I'm not sure if Bermuda has a hurricane season though.

Anyway, I hope everything is okay for you this week. Hugs for you!

Have a Happy Birthday too!

Edited: Karen, I just read your post. I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother as well! I know it must be so tough for you both! Please girls try to be strong! Hugs for you too Karen!

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Thank you guys so much!

Karen- I'm so sorry to hear that about your Grandmother. I for one know exactly what it's like. Please let me know if you ever need anyone to talk to.

You guys want to hear what's eating me up the most. I'm dealing with the fact that life is just life, and as sad as it is, at some point it must come to an end. Nana, was a spunky lady, severly independent who had a rough life. In her latter years she was at peace (from her divorce) and everything. She loved to walk everyday and lived off of very little money. I mean VERY LITTLE money. Social Security is all she had, and she was happy. That's the background- so, now, she's in the hospital failing fast from lung cancer. My Mom was there over the weekend and my Nana told her that she'd been saving a little bit over time. She's got a savings in a safe deposit box that she wants my Mom to take to help if not pay for my entire wedding. Why didn't she take a vacation in her lifetime? I'm so sad, and so touched that her last thoughts are of me. Ok - so I was doing ok until I wrote this, totally crying here... I just think that somehow in her mind, maybe she felt she had to go to help me.

Thanks for listening to my story.

(I will look into a cruise later. I orgianlly had wanted to go to Aruba for 1 week, and then take a cruise out of there for another week.)

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Karen and Michelle,
I am so sorry to hear about the failing health of both of your grandmothers. It has to be so hard trying to do all this crazy planning, which is an emotional roller-coaster to begin with, while trying to cope with a loved one's illness. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Michelle, love is such a strong and wonderful thing, I think it is such a testiment to your grandmother's character that she is thinking about you and your upcoming wedding- additionally, it is probably helping to bring her some needed happiness in that hospital room! Hang in there!!! Big hugs !!

Congrats Octbride03. I have heard super-great things about her. That's awesome. Did you take any pics?

I'm dying to go next Saturday for my facial and make-up trial! We've been stuck in tax training for 2 solid days and I'm going mad

Re: October 03 Brides.......

I can't wait for my facial! I'm sitting in the hotel room right now - bored out of my mind!!! Thank god for this site! I threw my laptop in the car at the final second. I'm sooooo glad I did.

Re: October 03 Brides.......

LOL!! That's the way I felt all day!!! I was sooo bored, I was going nuts!

Anyway, a hotel room? Gee, some fancy training!
karen32 Posted:

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Not too fancy - a Marriott in Stamford, CT. It's our national training for tax managers. Originally the LI people were driving, but since the weather was predicted to be bad, they put everybody up the night before.

Meanwhile FI and I bought a Xmas tree last Saturday. Our plan was to decorate it Tuesday night, but b/c of the change in plans I was heading to CT. So now this poor tree sits in the middle of the living room, still naked!!!! Hopefully we'll decorate tomorrow night if I don't get home too late.

Re: October 03 Brides.......

LOL!!! you got me chuckling, thinking of your poor, naked Christmas tree!!!

I'm pretty bored myself. I just got back from an elementary school chorus concert and now I can't sleep. I have Christmas carols going nuts in my head! lol!

Anyway, I'll stop babbling. Are you going to the GTG next Wednesday? For some reason I feel like I'm going to remember this thing when I'm on the train that night on my way home! Gee I hope not!
karen32 Posted:

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Where is the GTG next week?? This transit strike has my whole world in upheaval. I'm supposed to be teaching a class next Wednesday & Thursday in down-town NYC, but if transit strikes - nobody is going to be able to get there. I haven't prepared any of the class yet, so part of me is hoping for the strike - I guess I'll be spending Monday & Tuesday getting ready if the class is on

Haven't done a darn thing wedding-related in awhile. I'm trying to find a new, inexpensive place for a 3-day weekend for V Day. Do you have any ideas??
OctBride03 Posted:

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Hi Karen,

The GTG is at Heartland Brewery on 43rd & 6th. It starts at 6pm. I TOTALLY forgot about the Strike! I'm hoping my train doesn't get affected. I HATE crowded trains!

I would forum mail nylisa if you want to go. She's the one keeping the list.

I haven't done much wedding stuff either. Other than booking JN! I have to get the ball rolling RIGHT AFTER the holidays!

Anyway, have you ever been to Mystic Connecticut? FH and I LOVE it there! We recently went and stayed at the Hilton. It is VERY historical! And they have a cute little Mystic Village RIGHT across the street. They have downtown Mystic - LOTS of great restaurants! If you want anymore info let me know!
karen32 Posted:

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Mystic is a great idea!!! We drive past it on the way to Foxwoods and we always say we should check it out! Thanks for the info!!!

I really want to go to the GTG, but I'm not sure what my schedule holds for me. I just got home from CT and my boss called and asked me to work tomorrow . And to pack a lunch, b/c it's going to be a long day. I am not a happy camper right now!!

Can't wait for that facial!!!

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Hi everyone!
I'm home. All I can say is, that's the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Thank you guys for all of your support!

I was thinking of you all while I was away! Octbride03- so glad to hear you liked JN and booked her! I was wondering how that went??

I haven't done much wedding stuff either, but my FI is meeting with the dj this week and we're going to make a decision of who we're going with. I'll be happy to get that done and booked!

As far as the 'life change' diet- it was ok. I'm a nervous/stress eater.. so considering the circumstances, I didn't do too bad. Been having a lot of b-day cake though yikes.

Karen- I hope you can make it on Wed. it's going to be so much fun! We're doing a grab bad too for the holidays! YIPPEEEEE. ($10 limit) do you work in the city? Hope to see you there.

Gotta go do some work now- talk to you soon.

Mv1003,

I forum mailed you.

JN went well! She was so sweet!

Re: October 03 Brides.......

MV1003 -

Welcome back!!!! I'm not sure about Wednesday yet. I do work in the City, but spend most of my time at clients. My biggest client right now is on LI, and I'm afraid that's where I'll be on Wed. Thursday I will definitely be in the city (unless there's a transit striked).

Diet not going good for me either - work has been super-crazy, and I'm also a nervous, stressed eater. Just had Wendy's for lunch. Not good!!!

The only wedding thing on the radar is my facial and make-up trial with Jackie of I Make You Up on Saturday. I can't wait!!!!!! Not so much for the trial, but the facial. I haven't been pampered in a long time
