I have a question for you guys. I noticed a lot of different posts lately about people NOT doing the 'traditional' things at weddings. I don't know maybe I'm some kind of loser, but I always dreamed of being called 'Mr & Mrs John xxx' and I always wanted to do the garter and bouquet (sp?) toss. And the Arch that the Bridal Party makes for me and FH to walk under. But now it seems like no one does any of that anymore.

Am I a geek for still wanting to do all that 'traditional' stuff? Any of you guys doing any of it??

You're definitely not a geek!!!!!!!!! We're doing a lot of the traditional stuff - being introduced, BP arch. Not sure about the bouquet toss - but only b/c I'm the last one in my circle of friends to get married. There would be no one to catch it We may do the anniversary dance or something - we haven't really talked about it yet - not sure about FI's view on the whole thing. He may be gung-ho for the garter toss, so we may do it. Who knows??

Do whatever you want to do for your wedding. It's your day! Everybody does things differently, for a million different reasons. Trust me - their are PLENTY of things I see on these posts that I'm like What the F?? I would never do that. Everybody's different.

LOL! I'm like that for a lot of posts too. Sometimes I just think I'm a little cookoo!!

I know where you're coming from. I always thought - here I am, getting married a little bit older, successful career. Thought I would do things my way. Turns out - I'm a lot more traditional than I thought. I have the big white dress, the long veil (I think), I want to be introduced as 'Mr & Mrs'. I still want the same things my mom did, I'm just going about it a little differently. Does that make sense???? I've been thinking about it a lot lately. How I'm going to make a career (which is by no means 9-5) work with a family????

My MOH just had her 3rd miscarriage yesterday - and she's only 27!!! I'll be like 5 years older than that when we start trying. It's very freaky and so sad and so unpredictable.

Hi Again! Karen, I am sooo glad we are on the same page with this whole traditional stuff! I NEVER thought I'd be the mushy gushy type of bride, but here I am... poofy dress and all (well not too poofy) ha!

I am soooo sorry to hear about your MOH. I could just imagine how they must be feeling. It really is so unpredictable!! Again, I am sorry to hear.

I just wanted to add that A LOT of women with careers seem to have a handle on things when a family comes around. I myself am not big on career, but that's me. I am a Legal Secretary right now which is great, but once the babies come, HOPEFULLY I will no longer have to work. But I am a minority when it comes to that issue nowadays! Don't worry about stuff like that now. Enjoy the wedding planning! Everything works out smoothly when the time is here! Also wanted to say, if you have seniority wherever you work, maybe they can work something out with you. I think you said you are a CPA.... Maybe you can work from home in the future! The options can be endless! Hope I helped!

Sorry, I wish I had a computer at home. Octbride, do whatever it is under the sun that you want to do! IT is your day. We're not doing the bouquet toss/garder b/c FH hated doing it at other weddings. Plus, like Karen said, I'm the last of my friends to be getting married, so who would go up to catch it? I'd thought of maybe saying it represented something different- don't ask what though?????

Karen, so sorry to hear about your MOH. I'm older as well, and this is a hot topic for us. I would LOVE nothing more than to be married a year or 2 before we start trying to start a family. Due to my age, and the # of kids we want (I want 2-3, he wants 4-6!!!! Imagine?) we're going to start right away! I mean, like a honeymoon baby I only pray that everything works out and we can have healthy children.

As far as working, we hope that I don't have to work once we have children. I think I may have to work for the first 1-2 years. One never knows what the future has in store though. I'm sure for all of us, it's only good things!

HAHA! Michelle you made me laugh!!! The best thing is not to even talk about the darn diet! Just makes me annoyed at myself. I fell off the wagon again!!! Got my Caramel Macchiato again (yesterday and today) and a croissant!!! I know how you feel about not wanting to get out of bed. I swear I hit the snooze button this morning about 10 times! from 615am to 715!! Something wrong there!

I think after the holidays we will all be able to concentrate better! We just have to keep each other motivated. We do have 10 months! That's plenty of time to get ourselves sexy! LOL!

Oh yeah, he's crazy w/ the 4-6 children idea! I asked him if he was having 3 of them w/ someone else? hee hee....

Hard Core AFTER the holidays! I can't seem to stop eating

Hi!!! It was so nice to finally meet you too mv!! I felt bad, I kinda ran outta there, but I needed to catch my train. I ended up having to walk to Penn Station from there. Can't get a freaking cab anywhere and no subways for me. Oh well.

I can't seem to get started on my day!

I'm so jealous that you guys got to meet. I was stuck working on LI until 7:30 then went to my FMIL's to help her decorate her house and put up her tree. Since FI moved in, this is her first Xmas with none of her kids in the house, and I think she was a little blue.

Are you guys starting to doubt some of your vendor decisions?? I booked Photos of the Heart, and now I'm starting to doubt it. I love their work, but I think since there hasn't been a post recently about them, I'm starting to freak. There is another Hamlet WW bride who's using them, so her and I have been chatting back and forth. I also think since I booked everything sooooo early, I kinda feel disconnected from some of my vendors. I haven't talked to the photographer since we booked in early May. I just want to call and say 'Hi - here I am - remember me - 10/25/03???'

Totally normal!!! I was feeling the SAME exact way the other day!!! I was starting to freak because I was afraid I booked to early and no one is going to show!!!

You are not alone. OH and don't second guess yourself at all! That's the worst thing you could do. It'll drive you NUTS!!! I still do it sometimes. The band I chose is great, but hardly anyone has used them... Entertainment to me was most important and I am scared to death no one's going to dance. But then I get over it and eat something! ha! Don't worry Karen, whoever you chose I'm sure is the right vendor for you! If you feel you want to call them, I don't see anything wrong with just calling to remind them! Hey it's your wedding and you're paying them. The least they can do is reassure you, right?

Karen- I feel that way sometimes too! I want to pay for everything before we move in. So, I called my photographer, who was more than willing to take my money, let me tell you. However, he did say if I paid early he'd give us something like extra 5 by 7's- well I don't need those, I'd like something else. That was over a month ago and he's yet to send me my revised contract stating $0 as my balance- nor has he negotiated with me as to what I would like in exchange for paying early. Ugh. I really love his studio (Mark Kauffman) and his work, but all vendors seem the same to me at some point. You're just not as special to them as you feel to yourself! I too want to say- remember, 10/19/03- how could you forget? but- I know they've got 100's of weddings and really hope they concentrate on our day when it gets closer.

Sorry you had to work late last night. The word is the next gtg will be on a Friday so no one has to work the next day Hope you can make that one
