Yeah. I'm going to look into Ultimate Sounds DJ I hear they are really good with the Spanish and Jamaican. Their pricing is supposed to be really good too.

That's who I was going to suggest. I am Dominican and DH is Black and White and they managed to have EVERYONE of our 240 guests dancing the whole night.
Rafael was my DJ.

I am from St. Kitts and my FH is Jamaican,...we will be having black cake, some Caribbean food such as oxtails and Roti. We are also will be having steel pan playing for the ceremony. Seeing as though almost all of the guest are WestIndian we most definitely will be playing Reggae and Soca. We are also having drummers and pan players to enhance the Dj. That's all for now...lol...I'm sure by next week I'll add something else...lol

Can the RH's make Oxtail? I would love that because I know not everyone eats American food. Especially the older folks. I am just worried that it may not taste the same and my wedding end up being the talk of the town. Can you taste it before hand? I LOOOOOOOve Roti.

I am Jamaican and my Fiance' is Haitian.. I am also looking for a DJ that can incorporate some good Reggae music, not just the typical americanized 'Sean Paul and Shaggy music I've heard other DJ's play. I've been calling Ultimate sounds for weeks and all I'm getting is voicemail, that really scares me.....

Any suggestion?

I'm panamanian and my FH is haitian. We are trying to incorporate food from both cultures. Our RH doesnt normally do west indian food so we have to do a tasting to see if its up to our standards. Our DJ, After hours, also has spanish music and haitian music. I made sure and checked this out before i booked them.

We are also having black cake for the grooms cake. I had the idea of each person in the wedding party walking into the reception when they are announced waving the flag of their country. WE are walking into to soca music and since everyone is from different islands i thought it would set the party off right

We are having West Indian food at our reception; I was so happy when the RH told us we could get 3 different types of menu's for the reception. We got West Indian, Indian, and the typical RH food.

My mom already said she wants Jerk Chicken and some type of curry to make our guests feel at home. I think I will do the Black Cake for my bridal shower instead of the reception; my mom makes a great Black Cake but I don't want her to make cake for over 250 people.

I already made sure our DJ knows his stuff; he is Indian but he told me he has people who goes to the islands to get the most up-to-date soca and chutney music.

I like Charonda's idea of entering the RH to soca music, your guests will love it.

They said that they can make anything that we want but I am definitely going to taste it before the big day. I am kind of worried that it won't taste the way that it should and if that's the case I plan on just scratching that idea and just infuse Caribbean foods in the cocktail hour. Finger foods like saltfish fritters and banana fritters and stuff like that.

Re: Offical Caribbean Thread Calling all Islands

Hello Ladies! I'm Jamaican and my FH is Trinidadian. My RH says that they have done some Caribbean food in the past. I think we are going to try some Jamaican foods for the CH (jerk chicken wings, patties, etc.), but stick with the main courses. I know some of my relatives will say something, but I'd rather have them not do Caribbean food than do it wrong! We are still looking for a DJ, but we will definitely have some reggae and soca.

I agree, I am going to let them try but I really thin that I might just go with their main courses. I know that some halls have West Indian chefs though so I'm hoping that mine does..lol. I doubt it but I'll look into it.

Thank you. I was in a wedding where we entered to soca music and it was so much fun. It was like being at carnival
