Welcome! A bunch of us are using the Crowne Plaza White Plains for a hotel. I went to a wedding recently at the Surf Club and they used the Westchester Marriot which is in Tarrytown. I'm working with Alba at the CP White Plains. I'm also using Father Rich and Rabbi Broden as officiants. They're both from Westchester but will travel.

Thanks I am going to try to call the Crowne Plaze this week to see what their requirement is. Are you guys staying at the Crowne Plaza the night of your wedding? Do they give you any kind of discount on a suite since you will have so many ppl staying there?

Also can anyone explain the whole blocking rooms thing. Do I need to pay for the rooms upfront?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks ;)

We are staying there. You get a discount on a suite, but only if your block ends up with a certain amount of rooms, I think 30. No, you don't pay for the rooms upfront. Basically, you call and and let them know you'd like to set up a room block for a wedding. They'll connect you w/a sales mgr and I think with them you get 20 or so rooms initially at no charge to you whether they all book or not. After she puts a contract together she'll give you the room block info/code for people to use when they book and they'll have to book them by a certain date (usually around a month before the date) Whatever rooms aren't booked are released so you're not financially responsible for anything. If you need to book more rooms, I think they do them 10 at a time after the initial 20. They also allow you to reserve their hotel shuttles for guest transports, it's a few hundred dollars but still cheaper than renting a bus (we're using theirs as well).

Hi I live in Westchester but my wedding is in Long Island at Leonard's since my church is in Queens.

But I'll definitely be checking this thread out, I wouldn't mind working with some local vendors for flowers, make up and stuff like that.

I really need to find a hair/mu person that is either super close the the CP white plains, or that will come to it. I don't know the area that well so I'm still hunting. I'd like to schedule a trial soon. I posted on the knot as well in the hudson valley forum and got a couple of recommendation, so I just need to make some appts. I also need a RD location, again, somewhere in White Plains. But I don't yet have a budget for that yet cause I'm not sure if we're paying for it or if FFIL is. If it's on us, we might have to cram everyone in our 1-bedroom apt in Queens.

Thanks!! Yes, its Pronovias. Never heard of them before I went to Kleinfelds, but they have beautiful dresses.

Im also still fishing around for a hair & make-up person to get a trial going soon. I am looking at more gowns this Sunday, then the flower appt. finally one next week. (I booked it a month ago).

Other than that pretty much done with the main vendors.

i feel the same way. we booked our RH and photo/video vendor so far. i also ordered my dress and STDs. i want to book a DJ, officiant and our honeymoon by the end of November.
i think i can wait until early 2008 for limos, flowers and hair/makeup.
