My matron of honor (my cousin which is like and older sister) was also my madrina. She got us our cake as a gift.
ETA: About padrinos and Catholic church not marrying you they just use the MOH and the BM as padrinos.
Seems a little weird to me lol. It would b nice to ask someone to b a padrino, makes em feel special.
Hummm I guess i just used the Americanized way and translated Padrinos into BM and Matron of Honor.
I thought so too, but I went to a friend's wedding (she is from Peru) and she had 2 sets of Padrinos, one for her and one for her husband, a maid of honor and a best man as well...too many people,...lol

So to add to the thread...let talk about where we grew up and what we do for a living...
I grew up in Cypress Hills Brooklyn...(border of East NY)...I love Brooklyn and how everyone knows everyone....now I live in Hollis (the quiet part...lol) I go to law school...but did non profit social work for a while....
Whose next?
I grew up in South Richmond Hill, Queens. It transitioned from being an italian/german area to a west indian (mostly guyanese) area while I was growing up there. I now live in Forest Hills.
I work as a Bilingual marketing project manager for a financial company.

HI Ladies,
My name is Catalina (i am Colombian, born there, raised here). DH is Nicaraguan and Guatemalan (and a little chinese somewhere in there), he was born in Guatemale but raised here....
We are Christian, but I was raised Catholic, when it came to the wedding we decided to get married in a Christian church (that he grew up in). The service was in Spanish.
For cake we had tres leches cake- which was amazing!!! and for food we included arroz con gandules and a roasted whole pig (lechon- which I didnt really want but DH was all for it).
All our music was in Spanish except for some hip-hop from back in the days (early 90's) and some current one.
So to add to the thread...let talk about where we grew up and what we do for a living...

Hii and welcome!!! I loved that you had arroz con gandules and a lecon(yummy!!!!) My hall offers it but they are charging like $300 for it
..I'm from Elmhurst Queens, i live there with my mom and soon with FH. We were just planning on staying there because it's a large house and my mom is alone so i dont really want to leave her. Right now i'm working full time and go to school part time.

Sooo.... Are the Latin relatives wanting to invite everyone and their vecinos. Sometimes our people just dont understand that weddings are not a come one come all. Thank God my parents were cool about that, but I invited tons of people from their friends.

I was actually a little worried about that. FH has a HUGE family..his father is one of 7... and FH has 7 brothers and sisters, and cousins all over.. however his aunt (the family matriarch) sat us down and told us we can't invite everyone and if we needed to cut some cousins, just do it.. so it made us feel alot better about things with her telling us that! we are inviting a few relatives in PR -- some are actually coming but some probably won't..

I am so with you on this one....our parents knew not to even ask to let anyone come. We ran the list by them, I told my mother she could invite a couple of people if they were not on the list and DH dad as well...however since we paid for it they didnt try to invite the entire block...

Re: Official Latina Brides Thread
I'm quick to post but barely introduced myself.Welcome to all the beautiful Latina's up in this piece
I mentioned before, my name is Diana. My fiance's name is Hans. We are both kids from Queens. I was born and raised in Astoria, he was born in Jackson Heights and raised in Briarwood.
We REALLY love Queens but we just can't afford the type of house (Douglaston, Forest Hills) we'd like there so we're moving out to Long Island. We both went the super traditional route and moved back home from our respective apartments in order to save for our house. Our parents are super thrilled about that.
I am 30, work in Banking...went to undergrad at UMass and grad school at NYU.
Un abrazo fuerte a todas!
