Re: Official Milleridge Thread!

We did the cake when we had our tasting. Which I had way too late, because I was having a lot of dental work done.

You usually do the tasting 2 months before, I think. She was great about mixing and matching ideas that I found in the book. My cake was the 'autumn harvest' in different flower colors, swiss dots instead of plain whipped cream, and with satin ribbon that I bought for it.

Warning, if you're going to do the satin ribbon, check out my cake pics. I thought the area between the bottom of the ribbon and the next tier was a little sloppy.

I wanted to do the ribbon, some swiss dots and maybe sugar flowers or something on top.

Thanks for the tip!

I went for my tasting before I booked the place, but if you say 2 months then I guess I will get myself over there in August.

We did ours with our BM when we decided on the menu. I have to warn you - the bakery is not very fancy, so although the cake will taste good, you should pick something that simple and easy to do - swiss dots is perfect. I asked for something more complicated and I was warned they would have trouble... and they definitely did. It wasn't horrible, and it's just cake, but it wasn't the look I was going for either.

plainview, it sounds like you want exactly what I got. Take a look:

See what I mean about the area below the ribbon? I didn't notice till I saw the proofs of course.

I don't recommend the hazelnut filling. It was bland. Go for something sugary, like strawberry. It will stand out more.

I think they do more intricate work on the fondant cakes (with the smooth sugar icing) but that's extra. The pictures in the book look gorgeous though. I wonder if the bakers have changed since those pictures were taken.

But hey, if you're not stressing over the cake details (I know I didn't), getting it for free is a great thing.

Oh geez, I hope mine comes out okay. I sort of have them trying to do a combination of three pictures from magazine and a picture I drew! Hah!

You can also ask your BM to look at the book of cake pictures that are an 'upgrade' (i.e., you pay extra for it). We found one that we loved - I think it was called Bianca - so I haven't even bothered looking at cake pictures because I know that is the one we are getting. They had some pretty nice pictures - worth a look if you are worried about the bakery being able to pull off a replica of a picture.

Eh, I'll just hope for the best. I didn't want to spend any extra money to upgrade the cake. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out!

Re: Official Milleridge Thread!

I'm sure it will be fine! How did everyone decide on what flavor cake and filling to get? I asked if they did cake tastings but they said no. The only other thing I could think of was to order one or two small cakes from them so we can do our own tasting..but that may get expensive if we don't find one we like right away.

We just read the list and picked something a flavor we both liked. We asked them about a cake tasting too, and ditto they said no. Too bad, we definitely would have gone with something different.

We don't even like wedding cake. We fed one or two pieces to each other and didn't eat anymore.

Re: Official Milleridge Thread!

I have my guests staying at the Four Points but I have to say they have dropped the ball a bunch of times. Our guests have been told that they never heard of us, that there are no weddings there our weekend, that all of our rooms have been filled and that they are past the deadline. Sheesh.

As for the cake flavors, we were told no tastings and I wasn't going to go and buy a bunch of different cakes from them. So I just told them what I wanted and we'll see how it turns out!

Re: Official Milleridge Thread!

Our guests stayed at the Four Points Sheraton. We had no problems, and I found them to be pleasant to work with. I worked primarily with Mike Papierno, and he's very e-mail friendly, which is how I did most things. We also had guests at the Marriott in Melville - also had a good experience with them. And we had guests at the Holiday Inn in Plainview. I have no complaints about them either. Mike and Ilene (at the Marriott) were easier for me to contact because they were email friendly. My entire family's OOT, so we reserved 3 room blocks for them.

As for my cake, I have pics, but I haven't scanned any of my proofs in just yet. I'm hoping to get that done this weekend so you'll be able to see the pic I gave them, and what I got. In any event, it tasted good :)

I tried the Chicken Wellington and Chicken Florentine during my tasting and I thought both of them were delicious!! The Chicken wellington was heavy though - in a puff pastry - I wasn't expected to like it as much as I did but I probably wouldn't chose it because now everyone would want a puff pastry so I will probably go with the Florentine...hope that helps
Oh I probably replied too late to you -- what did you choose for your menu??

Re: Official Milleridge Thread!

You got my a** in gear, I continued writing my review. It's not short, by any means. I'm up to 11 pages (not including all the pictures) and I still have to review the DJ, photographer, limo, dress, alterations, jewelry, wedding gifts, mother nature, my FAMILY, etc.

Now that football season has started, my tv has been hijacked by my husband. Which gives me more time for other things!

I'll see about finishing it this week and I'll post a link to it here when I'm done.
