I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread where us out of town brides can help each other out with the planning. It is very difficult to plan from far away. We can also vent on here too.
My name is Sheena and I live in Florida. It is so difficult to plan a wedding in NY and sometimes I wish I would have made it easier on myself and get married here. I thought it would be better since all my family lives in NY. So far I have all my major vendors booked except limo.
I look forward to meeting you ladies and getting ideas.

Yea every day is a new struggle and a new challange... On that note, reading the 2010 board and spepaking of our 'Showers' , How are you OOT'ers handleing this?? And what are your girls planning on doing with all of this???
I am having my shower in Ohio. But, FHs parents are throwing us an engagement party and including everyone plus some who would be invited to the shower. That way my mom and sister still get to plan a shower for my family and his family can come to the engagement party.

I think this thread is a great idea!!!!! I'm Erika - I am an OOT bride from Florida!! To add in to the mix, I'm originally from Ohio so we will have Florida people, Ohio people and ofcourse NY people at the wedding!!
Planning this has been so stress because I don't know the island at all! It is FH home. We decided to have it there because his family is quite a bit larger than mine.
Hi Erika,
Welcome. What part of Florida do you live in? Maybe we can all have our own little G2G I know what you mean about not being from LI. I was originally from the Bronx still close to LI but I feel lost in LI. We are all here for you if you need help

Re: Official Out Of Town Bride Thread
hey guys i planned our wedding from Buffalo it's hard and highly stressfull at times but most vendors have worked with OOT brides so don't worry about that too much. I refused to book any one that i didn't meet with in person so the 3 times we were on LI within 18 months we went vendor meeting crazy. It is a lot to take in but you do NOT need to book them on the spot you can always fax and mail contracts. I'll check out this thread from time to time and you can all FM me anytime if you have questions please feel free to ask away. I'm a little busy with my etsy shop but i will get back to you asap

Hey everyone!
I am an OOT bride that currently lives in Ohio. I grew up in Long Island and FH grew up an hour away from there. Since we don't even really like Ohio ( ), we decided to have our wedding in LI! Everything has been shockingly smooth, mostly because of this site and just making sure I scheduled appointments way in advance when I knew I would be in LI (which has been three times in the past year).
As for the bridal shower question...I actually had one in LI last weekend! It was really difficult for everyone to organize because I have friends from all over the country (ranging from Maine to California...they just can't stay in one place ;)). It was a fairly small shower (25 people), but most people wanted to save up money to be able to make my wedding. It was definitely fun and worth going to LI, you just have to be OK with the fact that it won't be a surprise shower :).

Hey everyone!!! What a great idea to start this thread! My name is Sandy and FH and I are currently living in Guadalajara, Mexico while at medical school here. FH is from Puerto Rico and I am from Long Island. We decided to have the wedding on Long Island since my parents are hosting and all my family is from the NY area...however FH's entire family will have to come up from PR. It's kinda stressing me out having to plan from Mexico however, things have gone pretty smoothly since we started planning early.. We booked the RH in may and i even got my dress early on. Then i booked photographer also when i was home in May. I recently went home a few weeks ago and looked into hotel blocking. I think in Dec/Jan i will book the DJ and look at florists. FH probably won't be there with me though so i'm kinda sad about that. He was there to book the hall but i kinda wanted his input on other things, even though he says he doesn't care if i book things...that he just has to show up hahahah! funny boy!
nice to meet u all!

This is as far as we have gotten with a poem or something of that sort:
As we all know the Bride lives so far away But we still need to give her, her special day. Her Bridal party & Mommy would like you to know How all this is going to go….
Traveling with breakables, and boxes full of stuff Is going to be kind of tough.

Well being that FH and I are in Mexico most of the year...I think my mom was thinking of planning the shower July 4th weekend (i'll be home for a few weeks in the summer) So the shower will be about 6 months in advance but hey, gotta do it when i'm around! probably going ot have a bacholerette party then too since some of my friends will be coming to the shower in the summer! I've heard some brides have like 2 mini-showers, one where they are and another in Ny...that is if you had a chance to get to NY.

Not really...if the vendors have good reps I wouldn't even worry. I had to click with the person on the phone too.

I have never been to Riccardo's By the Bride. My DOC got married there and her pics look really nice. I saw glen terrace on 'my fair wedding' twice and it looked nice. What is your budget? Alot of girls got great deals from Leonards of Great NEck and Coral House. I believe certain halls have all inclusive deals too. My cousin got married at Ariana Waterfall and they had complete packages with photo/video, dj, flowers and hall between 9k-11k depending what you got on the menu. It was pretty too.

Hey Sandy,
I'm glad things are working out for you. Please share tips with us. My FH didn't really care about nothing to do with the wedding except the hall. I sent him pics and he definately did give his opinions.
