Official Out Of Town Bride Thread

Original post by MrsDR2010

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread where us out of town brides can help each other out with the planning. It is very difficult to plan from far away. We can also vent on here too.

My name is Sheena and I live in Florida. It is so difficult to plan a wedding in NY and sometimes I wish I would have made it easier on myself and get married here. I thought it would be better since all my family lives in NY. So far I have all my major vendors booked except limo.

I look forward to meeting you ladies and getting ideas.

hey guys i planned our wedding from Buffalo it's hard and highly stressfull at times but most vendors have worked with OOT brides so don't worry about that too much.
I refused to book any one that i didn't meet with in person so the 3 times we were on LI within 18 months we went vendor meeting crazy. It is a lot to take in but you do NOT need to book them on the spot you can always fax and mail contracts.
I'll check out this thread from time to time and you can all FM me anytime if you have questions please feel free to ask away.
I'm a little busy with my etsy shop but i will get back to you asap

Aww....how sweet of you....thanks for your help.

Your etsy shop items look great. I have to find something nice to order.

Hi ladies, my name is Caitie and I am living with my fiance in California trying to plan our wedding on long island. Most all of both of our families are located around New York and my family is mostly on long island. It is definitely really hard. We were there for two weeks over the summer and I picked out my dress and bridesmaid dresses and our location but everything else is just starting to come together. We're hoping to get our photographer booked while we are there for Christmas.

Hey Caitlin, I just love that name byw It's my daughter's name I spell it with a K and a Y.

Anyhoo, I would make as visit as many vendors as possible so when you get to NY it will be a little easier for you. You can get suggestions from this board and then read the reviews and pick from there.

I think this thread is a great idea!!!!! I'm Erika - I am an OOT bride from Florida!! To add in to the mix, I'm originally from Ohio so we will have Florida people, Ohio people and ofcourse NY people at the wedding!!

Planning this has been so stress because I don't know the island at all! It is FH home. We decided to have it there because his family is quite a bit larger than mine.

Hi Erika,

Welcome. What part of Florida do you live in? Maybe we can all have our own little G2G I know what you mean about not being from LI. I was originally from the Bronx still close to LI but I feel lost in LI. We are all here for you if you need help

Hi! I'm from the Fort Lauderdale area - What about you?

I'm in the Ft. Lauderdale area too. Kristen (soon2beshea ) and I met up yesterday to go dress shopping. We can definately have a g2g if your up to it.

Sure - that would be so fun!! Where did you ladies go to try on dresses? I'm new to the area so I don't know my way around all that great. I saw a lot of dress shops in the miami area but I would rather stay around Fort Lauderdale.

Whew...So I'm not the only one!!! FH and I live in Delaware and are planning a Long Island wedding as well. We moved here a year ago because we were barely getting by on the island. At first we were highly considering dragging all our guests here to make it easier on ourselves but then we realized it be alot more practical for us to just head home. Since we're planning this on such a tight budget we decided to go with a venue that offers a complete wedding package, all vendors included...I couldnt imagine booking all the necessary vendors long distance. I can't express how greatful I am that I stumbled upon this site... so far it has helped me tremendously and I look forward to getting to know some ppl on here as well.

HI! I guess technically I'm an OOT bride. I'm living in north rockland county with FH and his family. (I'm near the woodbury outlets). My family if from LI and all still live there. I TRY to make it to LI every 2 months but even that is a stretch! I lucked out because my one of my mom's friends is a florist and the other is a cake baker so I got two things crossed off my list right away. Everything else had been a struggle. For my DJ & photographer I booked vendors from the city and am paying dearly for a travel fee to come to the south fork for my wedding.

As for my shower I'm having it near FH's house. His mom really wanted to plan it, my mom didn't so that worked out in that respect.

Hey OOT girls - I just learned about something super exciting. (Well atleast I thought it was!) If you use your OOT adress for your photographer (not sure if this will work for other venders) you do not have to pay ny sales tax!

A small savings but still a savings!

Hi!
I'm originally from NYC, all my family's there and the FI's are scattered all over. We're currently in Upstate NY; about 8hrs drive. Been planning since we got engaged Feb 14 09. And after 9 months we are finally booking a venue! And not through lack of trying either.

It really s*cks because we chose not to be selfish and make everyone travel to US but we are definitely paying for it with stress.
I hate it when ppl ask me how it's going and they say 'you still don't have place?!?! What are you waiting for?'.

Yes, I know the wedding day is quickly approaching and we still don't have a place. It's not like we've been sitting here twiddling our thumbs. Thank you very much.

So a lot of communication has been via emails and since I refuse to book any vendors (esp the venue!) before seeing and meeting in person it's been slow to check any items off.
We thought we had a photographer(whom we both absolutely loved) but then something came up on her end that was unexpected. And we're not sure now if we want to risk her not being able to work the day of.

As far as a Bridal shower I really doubt I would get one. It's really more of a American Tradition (I'm Chinese) so I don't see my mom throwing one for me. My Future MIL was the one who threw one for the FI's SIL and FMIL is moving to GA now. So I highly doubt that she will plan a surprise shower and come up just for that. I love her but I just don't see her doing that for me. (Can you tell there's a lot of back story behind that?!?! )

I'm kind of an OOT bride in reverse.

We are doing a seperate ceremony w/ small after party and reception which will be in Michigan.

So I can easily plan the small party stuff here but have to plan the Michigan event from here.

Hey,
Welcome! I know its very stressful. I hope that this board can be of assistance to you.
What places have you checked out? Maybe we can help. What price are you trying to stay within? What type of setting do you want..beach, lounge, loft..etc
