Official Out Of Town Bride Thread

Original post by MrsDR2010

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread where us out of town brides can help each other out with the planning. It is very difficult to plan from far away. We can also vent on here too.

My name is Sheena and I live in Florida. It is so difficult to plan a wedding in NY and sometimes I wish I would have made it easier on myself and get married here. I thought it would be better since all my family lives in NY. So far I have all my major vendors booked except limo.

I look forward to meeting you ladies and getting ideas.

I got the Rh and vendors booked and thats it. I am waiting for Jan/Feb to work on finer details like dresses and any DIY projects I may want to take on.

Thats great! You are definatley off to a good start.

Where are you getting your dress in NY or where you live?

Hi ladies! How are we all doing? Yesterday I was three months out from my wedding and I think all of my stress hit at once!! What do you guys have left to do over the next few weekends you head home? I know I have to schedule my dress fittings, bridal shower, meet with djs, cake tasting and RH tasting and I'm sure there's so much more! Good luck everyone!

Hi everyone, I was hoping I could jump on this thread too! My name is Chantelle and FH and I currently live in Oregon, but we are moving to NC in April once I finish my degree. I grew up in Lynbrook, so our wedding will be on LI, but I haven't had a chance to do anything yet! I am hoping to get home to LI sometime in May to book a RH but I am worried that there will be no dates left for 2011 I would love any and all advice from you fellow OOT brides!

Hi!
I think you are good with timing. I would start contacting venues via email asap. So that you are on the radar for your date. If you're really worried I would keep your date options open. But I think you will be fine.
My biggest advice would be to do as much research and communicating via online and email as possible.
Then when you're back schedule as many visits with venues and vendors as possible. Doesn't matter what the 'typical booking time frame' is. Throw that out the window. You want to maximize your time home.
And it's a good idea to have an idea in your head of when and how often you will be back home to do wedding stuff. And give yourself specific tasks to achieve when you go home.
Like your first visit home to visit venues in May you might also want to tack in there what vendors are important to you. Photographer? Officiant? If you're sure about LI then you're safe to research most vendors. I would hold of caterers because you don't know if your venue will come with one.
GL!

such good advice - thank you for that!

Hi girls - this is the first time I saw this thread, so i'll introduce myself!
I'm Denise and live in Philly with my FH. Its not as far as a lot of you guys live, but it is still a nuisance! We don't go home a lot at all, so when we do, I feel like we should make the most of it. Its very annoying! I'm really impressed by you girls planning so far away from LI! We have such a long time before our wedding, so it hasn't been too bad yet, but I can't even imagine what it's going to be like when we're really close to our date. Keep the advice coming please!!!

Re: Official Out Of Town Bride Thread

I agree that you have to get as much stuff done as possible when you go home. I am also lucky enough to have really supportive parents, with flexible work schedules, so they were able to do a lot of leg-work for us. They scouted out RH sites for us, asked friends about DJ's they saw at weddings, and overall have just been a tremendous help.

Just be prepared to get a tiny bit overwhelmed every time you go home. We looked at six RHs in one day and were absolutely exhausted. But that's the key, don't give yourself the choice of every place on Long Island, narrow your options so you don't drive yourself crazy. You could spend every weekend for months going to all the different vendors, but you don't have that luxury, so lean on friends and family, and of course this board, to find vendors that people rave about. Also, once you've booked your RH definitely follow up with all the recommended vendors from the RH. We're using almost all house vendors because they gave us good prices, were entirely reputable, and we had a list of them in front of us!

Good luck and let me know if you need anything!

Hi everyone! I am planing my wedding from Philly. My FI lives in Brooklyn so I am up there pretty much every weekend. It's a bummer though bec. I only get to spend QT with him on the weekend. Hopefully, most of the heavy planning will be done by mext month.

Hi Ladies

My FH and i live in Fl but we're both from NY. He's from LI and I'm from Brooklyn. We finally booked a RH last week and I ordered my dress here but everything else is open. We have to book DJ, photo/video. It's verystressful. We are only going up once in between in May so we have been doing everything over the phone and thru emails. Fortunately my friends and family are helpful and this site is amazing. I have learned so much from coming on here.
