This makes me so mad. I had the opposite problem. The first church we went to was where FH's parents got married and I thought it would be nice for him since his dad passed away 4 years ago. Well, the priest said he would NOT do a mass for us, only a ceremony, because FH doesn't get to church every Sunday. My mom was p**sed!!! They all have their own set of rules it seems.

That's ridiculous... yes... lets make people feel bad about the choices they have made about their wedding ceremony... it's not like they are doing you a favor by marrying you. People pay a lot of $$ to get married in a church... is it extra for them to do it guilt trip free????

Wow...I'm really sorry. For what its worth, I've had problems with my priest too. He refuses to let us change the time...my grandparents helped build on the church and they wont push the ceremony half an hour sooner. It can be very frustrating and its hard to express your frustration because of the person you're working with...its not exactly politically correct to be angry with a priest.

ugh that's so frustrating. i've always felt that religion is what you want it to be - it's a personal choice. so if you don't a mass, you shouldn't be made to feel bad about it!

Even though I am Catholic, I've always had an aversion to the church and their preaching because they are so hypocritical. That's why I chose to get married at the RH.

OMG, I'm not sure how I would have answered that either. How inappropriate though. You're an adult, you made your decision, I know he's a priest, but if a ceremony by itself was unacceptable to God or the Vatican, theyw ouldn't let you do it! Take it easy, guy! Geez...

Honestly, he should be happy you're a young married couple getting married in the church! There aren't that many young people involved in the church these days...

ouch! sorry you were put on the spot like that. i was so thankful that question did not come up when i was at pre cana last week, because we too are most likey having just a ceremony and to be honest it is because of the way photos and timing will work out. it's really none of their business to be asking you that
