Okay so I knew there would be someone in my family that wouldnt be happy about us having no kids at the reception. Last night I was at my parents house and my couisn called and I answered the phone. So she was asking about the wedding plans and asking about the flower girl and ring bearer (she happens to have a girl and a boy)....I knew where she was going with this. So she asked me if I wanted her kids to be the flower girl and ring bearer. So I said no thanks we arent having a flower girl or ring bearer....We arent having kids at the wedding. So she says to me well I have to bring them because my mom and my sisters are going to be at the wedding so I wont have a babysitter. At this point I was a little ticked so I said....The wedding isnt until November 30 2007...You have plenty of time until then to find a babysitter. What do I do if she insists that she has to bring the kids? They are I think 4 and 6?? I like kids but IMO the parents wont be able to enjoy themselves if their kids are there you know?

I am in the same boat. We only wanted the flower girls. Then FH family was complaining that my neices where going so that his nieces and nephews should be invited. So we decided to invite neices and nephews only. This is 9 kids in total. So I went from 2 to 9. Now other people are calling and saying well if they ar coming whats a few more. It never ends. Stick to your guns!!

I think you did the right hing by telling her now that there wont be any kids at the wedding. When you get the RSVP back and if she puts her kids names on the card then you will have to tell her again... if she is that b@llsy..... Hopefully she got the hint.
We are having the same problem and when FH heard that a cousin of his that he has not seen in 15 years was causing a problem he called him and said if you don't like it we will understand if you don;'t come LOL

People are so ridiculous when it comes to their kids. Not everyone finds kids to be as adorable and fun as their parents think they are. Stick to your guns! And you are totally right...She has plenty of time to find a sitter.

Where do people get off thinking that they're going to decide who goes to your wedding? First off, it's not like these children are your first cousins. If that were the case, I could see her being a little insulted. I think it's really nervy of someone to TELL you that they're bringing their kids three seconds after you told her you weren't having any.

People really do have some nerve! First of all calling you to find out if you wanted her kids to be involved in the wedding was uncalled for - who does that? Then for her to try to give you a guilt trip about why she needs to bring them is just ridiculous. People never seem to understand this, yet it happens all the time. The bride and the groom are 2 people just begininng their lives together and this is THEIR celebration - their decision is their decision - RESPECT IT AND DON'T TRY TO PURSUAID THEM! I am sure that I will be tackeling this issue soon. I haven't come up with a definate solution yet. I might just have my son there - but I start to get upset that he won't have anything to do. The last thing I want is him to be sad on that day or bored.
One thing I don't want to hear is this - 'Mommy is it over yet, I'm bored!'
As stated previously stand your ground. You handled her w/ wonderful tackfullness, maintain that and eventually she will get it. She doesn't have to like it but it's your wedding, your way.

If you say no kids, then there will be no kids. You must insist that she find a babysitter and be sure to explain that you would love to make an exception for her, but that wouldn't be right to the other guests.

you just need to be firm- tell her you can't have her kids or any kids for that matter!
we're not having our flower girls stay for the reception. they actually have another brother (they are triplets) as well as an older brother and I didn't want to do that to my cousin and her husband. So I'm going to suggest that they can come to the cocktail hour and then have a babysitter.
