Oh ok..so I made one no-no this whole wedding...

Original post by TheMrandMrsof2008

I am admit..offically..on the place where everyone who is everyone goes for wedding info...

I AM USING CLEAR LABELS ON MY INVITATIONS....

why? Because I am running low on the envelopes, patience, and time. So as you throw the envelope into the trash you may 'suck your teeth' at me!

Seriously.. is this very tabu or is it ok?

My printer worked and has since crashed I have only gotten about 38 of the envelopes printed. I am thinking I will use the labels.

HONEST OPINIONS ONLY!

I used clear labels on the RSVP cards. I think its fine. The envelopes are going in the garbage...

I am using clear labels which I did a mail merge from my Excel spreadsheet and printed using Word. I bought Avery 'crystal clear' labels but thought they looked to 'shiny' on the envelopes. I found 'cheapo' clear labels at Walmart that were not as shiny as the Avery ones. They blended into the envelope almost perfectly on my STD's I sent. I am going to use them on my Invites as well!

I hadn't really thought about this but I do have decent handwriting (someone actually paid me once to handwrite her informal reception envelopes!)... so I guess that's what I'll be doing. I didn't realize that regular handwriting was acceptable... I will probably use labels on the response cards, or print directly to them. Now I guess I have to think of all these details! And quick!!

I typed mine myself with the computer..It was real easy once you got the rhythm down..But labels are god too..I wanted to use them but doing them directly on the envelope was actually easier and quicker

You open an envelope and then throw it out. I say it's not a big deal at all. Make your life easier and use the labels.

agreed

this question has nothing to do with etiquette or anything like that...i haven't gotten to invites yet but i was always curious why ppl print addresses on labels and not on the envelopes directly? wouldn't it also be cheaper, not by alot lol but you dont have to buy anything extra such as the labels. Or do you just like the way the addresses look better on labels rather than directly on the envelope?

many girls have screwed up a bunch of envelopes while trying to get the envelope through the printer. sometimes things smear, get jammed, etc. its not really worth the hassle IMO.

thats why many turn to labels. i did. i wasnt going to buy a ton of extra envelopes in case I messed up.

youre right, its not about ettiquette. its whatever your preference is.

i still dont get why someone would be offended with labels? seems so silly.

Don't use labels.

'Wedding invitations are normally addressed by hand. You might use a laser printer font that simulates calligraphy, but it is relatively easly to distinguish beteween mechanical and genuine handwriting. Don't use stick-on labels for guest or return adresses.'

oh ok, i was just curious bc i was thinking, hey isn't it easier on the printer, but i do see your point bc i 've had trouble with my printer before and it is the biggest PITA!!!!! i had so many problems for e-party invites that i seriously dont want to do anything with them lol, i want it all done for me bc i was ready to kill someone bc of the invites

Trust me. None of your guest care if they are hand written or are sticky stuck on labels. They care about your happiness and knowing when / where the wedding is. That's it. Don't stress.

I agree with everyone- no-one is going to notice- BUT.....YOU will notice so if it is going to bother you, I wouldn't do it.

the only question i would ask myself is...what is more important for my wedding? doing what i feel works best for me and makes me happy OR doing what some book tells me i must do, for no good reason? half of what etiquette says seems so silly to me. ppl glance at an envelope and toss it. JMO!

You are so right. I am using the labels. I don't care what a book tells me, I guess. I just know I will still be marrying the man of my dreams! YAYAYAYA

I guess I am old fashioned but the invitation is only paper and people do throw it out, but its the first thing guests get that will clue them into what your wedding will be. I know it sounds silly, but I pay attention to things like that. Sorry...no labels for me on a formal invitation to a formal wedding.

i agree though i think it looks nicer to print on the envelope .. in the end it gets torn open and thrown out.. do what is going to give you the least stress!!!!

I have to agree, I've never received an invitation with a label on it however I do think it should be totally your choice. I also have never received a handwritten invitation. All the invitations I have looked at or received have been printed directly on the envelope by the people who printed the invitations. Most of them look like calligrapghy but its actually printed. I guess it depends on different circles and what you're accustom to. As long as you love it, thats all that should matter.

I think you should do whatever makes you happy, they're your invitations!
