I am admit..offically..on the place where everyone who is everyone goes for wedding info...
I AM USING CLEAR LABELS ON MY INVITATIONS....
why? Because I am running low on the envelopes, patience, and time. So as you throw the envelope into the trash you may 'suck your teeth' at me!
Seriously.. is this very tabu or is it ok?
My printer worked and has since crashed I have only gotten about 38 of the envelopes printed. I am thinking I will use the labels.
HONEST OPINIONS ONLY!

I've seen an example where the label was barely noticable and one where it looked sloppy. I think if it's a nice font and placed carefully on the envelope, it should be okay.

We used clear labels on the return address envelopes, but directly printed people's addresses on the outer envelopes. It is not ideal, but it is easier. It really won't make or break your wedding.

What's wrong with clear labels? Are addresses supposed to be hand written? No real difference to me whether they are printed on the envelope itself or on a clear label stuck to the envelope.

Actually, I have to say...I was a moh in one of my bm's wedding. We hand wrote the addresses on all of her invitations. First of all, it took SOOO LONG to do. Second, I felt like it would have looked much neater and more professional to have them printed. We didn't do calligraphy on them, just wrote them. I don't really see why the etiquette says that is the 'proper' way to address them. Seems more informal to me.

1st, 99.9% of people are not gonna notice. The envelope goes in the garbage most times.
2nd, Clear labels are easier and more effective to print up and then feeding envelopes one by one.
3rd, if you buy the right labels, you cant even really tell that its there unless someone takes the time to inspect....and if they are...why do that have so much time on their hands to do that, right?!
4th, These are your family and friends who love you, no ones gonna judge you for using labels. In the scheme of things, its so insignificant!
I say go label-crazy!

IMO, as ridiculous as it may seem, it's not worth the potential criticism. For every 10 people who don't notice you have 1 who does, and that ONE can be the one to make a big deal about it to everyone. Practice on a piece of regular paper cut to size of your envelope and hopefully you can get it to work

I asked my family about this today (had a big dinner ar my house) and all the women like gasped at the clear label thing...I thought it was funny. MY family is so traditional. They would be the 1 out of 10 that would say something about it.
I am getting mine hand done...but to each their own.
you have to keep your budget in mind and what is most important to you.
I am having a very formal affair and feel like tha hand callig is most appropriate.
Its your wedding...your invitation....do what YOU want.

Re: Oh ok..so I made one no-no this whole wedding...
I used clear labels for my engagement invites, place cards and thank you cards.. everyone loved them.. and my engagement was a very formal affair.. ceremony, sitdown lunch et all..
the wedding will be done in the same manner.. i don't think that having the address done by hand is an indicator of how formal an event is going to be.. rather, i feel that if something is done in a clean clear manner, it looks more 'formal' if that is what you are going for..
the labels stuck to the invite so well, no lumps nothing.. everything was spaced out well and recieved so many compliments, especially for the place cards.. people were grateful that were able to look for their names w/o hoopla.. imagine 200 people attacking the place card table

I dont see why people would get offended if you used labels??? it goes in the trash anyway. I'll be different and use crayons! J/K!! If it saves someone time and money, then I dont see the problem with the labels. The envelope shouldnt have any affect the people receiving it. What- if its a label they arent going to come?? Will people really gossip about it at the wedding? No! Its not worth the stress, do whatever you are comfortable with.

Ahhh... labels. This was my one big stress of the wedding too!! I ended up using the clear packing labels which are larger than the mailing labels so I could print them in the pretty cursive font and have it large enough to read. In the end, they were gorgeous and no one ever mentioned the labels being tacky to me.
