I actually was engaged before and broke up with my last fiance literally because of his mother. He asked me afterwards why we broke up and I was like, 'If your mother ever passes, please look me up!'...

My ex-fiance's older sister and her friend had passed away in this horrible car accident about 10 years ago. She was 17 at the time and it made all the papers. This family was very messed up because of it- I can't say I blamed them. But My fiance became a martyr to his poor mother...

She was a nightmare!!! She would make him have sleepovers, force him to continue in the restaurant business as a manager when he was clearly destined for greater and wanted to be in corporate environment, controlled his finances, etc... Everything was like you have to do this because I am your mother. She even told me I had to name my first child after his sister- the EXACT NAME!!!

If he ever talked back to her at all or voiced an opinion, she would be like 'you are not a good child. Debbie was a great daughter- she never talked back'.... I felt so bad.... It was so different. Debbie was 17 years old when she passed. My FI was a 27 year old man!!!

My MIL is a wonderful woman. However, it's the little things that get on my nerves. I am thankful because it could be worst.

I get along very well with my MIL. My DH is from a big family-there were a bunch of daughter-in-laws before me. Maybe I owe some thanks to my SILs for 'breaking her in'

I also get along great with FMIL. She is like my second mom.

she drives me crazy every now and then, but she lives out of state so I looooooooove her!!!!!!!!!!

We get along but we aren't warm and fuzzy. Sometimes she drives me nuts, but this seems to go in and out in cycles.

Wow - reading how the majority has at least a decent relationship, if not, awesome relationship w/their fmil - makes me happy for you guys! I would never wish the crap that I've gone through so far on anyone... YOU GO GIRLS! I hope you guys know how lucky you are.

I don't have a FMIL, she is deceased. My FI only has brothers, they all treat me like a goddess. I feel very fortunate... and sad sometimes when my FI says he wishes his mom could be here for the wedding. We are going to have a special prayer for her at our ceremony. She was really nice though I did get to meet her.

I LOVE my FMIL. She is wonderful and loving. FH is a big Mama's boy, and her baby, yet she has not been wicked at all. She's been supportive of us since the beginning, and would even give me advice on how to handle her son when he was being VERY difficult (in the beginning, LOL )

I'm not saying she NEVER gets on my nerves, hee hee, but she is a wonderful woman, and I feel lucky to have her as my FMIL

I get along with my FMIL very well. She has helped me tremendously with the wedding planning, and she is so flattered when I ask for her help. She doesn't stick her nose where it doesn't belong. She (and my FFIL) have been very supportive, to say the least.

She told me that she doesn't want to be a MIL like her MIL, who extremely opinionated and insists that my FFIL calls her every morning and evening. Everytime my FI and I go visit his parents, we can't tell his grandmother because she will insist that she be invited. She has already told me what my wedding should be like. I just shrug off the 'advice.'
