ok please help me with your great advice!!!

Original post by elisa112101

ok so my mom and dad is contributing a decent chunk of money to our wedding... we were looking at sample invites last night and she asked how we were going word them.... i just figured we would put me and fH would like you presence... blah blah blah... but she wants us to include her and my dads name on it... ok so i call FH and he tells me that he just talked to his mom and she feels sooooooooo awful(yeah ok whatever) that she cant contribute to the wedding( and i mean NOTHING) not even a card to congradulate us.... and that if we put my parents name on the invite that she would feel even worse. like its a slap in the face to her or somthng... but told him that is still the right thing to incude my parents name anyways... am i wrong for not wanting to include his mom or am i way off base on this one??
SO sorry so long!!

we are in the same situation, my parents are paying for our RH, but we also wanted to include FH's parents so we worded it like this:

Mr & Mrs. My Parents
request the honor of your presence at the wedding of their daughter

ME

to

FH

son of Mr. HIS DAD and Ms. HIS MOM

on Saturday...etc...

HTH!

I like this...do this to make it fair.

honestly i think it also depends on your relationship with FMIL... you need to talk to your FH and try and explain to him all the reasons why you feel the way you do....

mine relationship with FMIL is nonexistant... because she is insane... and at this point she is not even invited to the wedding... so she has no business having her name on my invitation...

i tried to talk to him last night about it.. but i think he just feels bad for his mom(he got a big heart for her) but dont think she earned a spot on the invite... and i think my mom has... im just gonna go for it and and in the end... it will just have to do!

i always say this.... i think putting your parents name on an invite should not be because they are helping pay for the wedding, i think its an honor to include there names and is a way to say thanks for them raising you... i mean in all honesty they spent thousand and thousands of dollars on you all these years, i think they should be included on the invites regardless of if they can or are contributing

just my honest opinion

when do you have to make the final decision about the invites? in light of what you said about your FH, dont make a decision that is going to strain yours and his relationship with each other...

I like the idea of having

'Mr. & Mrs. YOUR PARENTS
invite you to the wedding of '
YOUR NAME' &
'HIS NAME'
son of
'HIS PARENTS NAMES'

This is totally fair. No one is being excluded and everyone's name is on there.

If your FMIL is still not ok with this, I would try to talk to her. Explain that your parents have worked very hard to be able to contribute to their daughter's wedding, and they probably dreamed of this day for a very long time. It gives them a great deal of pride to be able to help you guys out. And by not putting them on the invitation would be a slap in THEIR face. The end.

Say Mr. & Mrs. Brides Parents invite you to the wedding of

Bride

&

Groom

son of Groom's Mother

that way she is on the invite but its not saying she paid for it.

i'm having the same issue. i'm using the above to appease her.
