Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

I went to my photgrapher to pick up my proofs yesterday (will post as soon as I get near a scanner)

Well the point of my story is that - I was told that friends we recommended stopped in to see my photographer. Unfortunately my friend's did not book with them. The reason being was that the price Patken was offering was out of their budget. I know what they were quoted and it IMO was reasonable.

This couple is getting married at a fancy expensive place. They are adding seafood stations to their cocktail hour and viennese hour. My point is why are they skimping on photography one of the most important things????

I really do not want to approach them because it is none of my business, but I will vent to you guys?

what is really important to you all????

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

To me it is the food, the music and the photographer (because he is the person that makes you relive your wedding everyday with your pictures).

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

I would say for me it would be that Patken isn't the only photographer in Long Island and well I didn't use them, I used Commack Wedding Center and I am just as happy. A good friend just got married this passed weekend by Patken and my parents didn't like that they weren't formal in church wearing tuxes and my guys wore tuxes which doesn't make them any better but again its just a silly thing that made us happy.
Maybe that hall or those food stations are very important to them. Maybe she dreamed of those places. I would say that your hall and your food is as important as photography and if you can find a photographer you like who is more in your budget or more resonable to you then you should go for it.

I would let them make your own decisions, you had your wedding and I can't wait to see your proofs! I can't wait to see my friends that they took on the 13th either!!

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

I think that some people get to a certain time in their planning where they realize that they are spending too much so they have to cut back on the things that they haven't booked yet.

Also, some people are out to impress others. Because of that, they aren't spending much on the things that no one but them will truly enjoy.

I don't fall into any of these, just a thought.

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

Honestly...maybe they ran out of money???

Or maybe they just didn't like your photgrapher and were being nice not to hurt your feelings?

Everyone has a different prefference.

I personally think Pic's, food, and DJ are the more important things to me, but that doens't mean someone else will agree.

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

I am not saying that they should have gone with Patken. I was more so surprised that they thought the price range was out of their budget, even if they went else where they would have gotten similar pricing. I am not one to dictate what people should do all I am saying is if I saw that I was not being able to afford great photography I would shave off dollars in other places, because I think Photography is very important.

Also, my photographer was dressed impeccably the day of my wedding.

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

My pictures were the most important thing and to be honest, I didn't mind paying a lot for it because, well, you get what you pay for, right?

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

photo and video are very important to me. Those are the things I will look back on to remember my day, to see pictures of people who may not be with us any more, and to reminse about the day.

My parents are married 25 years and if you ask them what kind of flowers they had, what was the main course, what kind of cake they had, they will tell you I dont remember. But they have their photo's to look back on.

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

also, I have not spoken to these friends yet.

The photographer said that they sat with them for a long time trying to work out a package in their budget and it was next to impossible because what they were willing to spend and what they wanted - did not mesh.

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

What is important to us: (in no specific order)
the pictures (THIS A HUGE ONE IN MY BOOK)
that everyone has a good time
that we don't stress over the planning
that our day is everything WE want
we'd like the food to be good and for everyone to boogie down
that we have the people that mean the most to us on probably the biggest day of our lives....
TO HAVE A DA*N GOOD WEDDING THAT EVERYONE REMEMBERS AND TO JUST HAVE FUN!!!

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

For me photo/video is the most important. Food, than flowers. At first I told everyone that flowers were'nt that big of a deal to me. Now I realize everything is important to me.

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

I agree, EVERYTHING is important, but the photographer is definitely very high up there. Your pictures will be what you have for the rest of your life and if good quality will be around long after you and DH have gone....think about the pics you see of relatives who are no longer with us. What a great gift for future generations....

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

I am such a prefectionist that everything is realy really important to me - everytime i say that i need to cut back I realize that i cant becasue that particular thing is important too - cutting back to me is like printing out my own menu cards - - i just want a classy affair that everyone enjoys - why does everything have to be so pricey??

Maybe they saw another photographer that they liked and didnt want to hurt your feelings so said it was a budget issue - (whcih doesnt make sense) -who have they decided on?

Although i do agree- it may be that they havnet realized howmuch is left in their budget until they got to photo -

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

Some people just aren't picture people. Like for me the video was not important at all- how many times are you going to watch it. My boss said she never looks at her album just the video so it really depends on the person. Plus you can get really good pictures from a cheaper photgrapher. Even some of the guests at my wedding got really good shots.

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

What is important to me?
My dress
Photography
Music
Food
Ambiance

Aside from my dress being priority #1, the rest is all of equal importance to me. Actually, I think every single detail about the wedding is very important to me. There was not one vendor that I booked that I didn't research and analyze and stress out about. That said when it came to budget, I didn't put a price cap on my dress or my photographer, I wanted what I fell in love with and that was that.

Re: Ok, what's important when it comes to your wedding?

What's most important to us is that our family and friends are there to celebrate in our day.

Vendor wise, I'd say music, food, and the photographer are our top three in importance. I just want simple, elegant flowers - nothing elaborate or expensive.
