Are there any old traditions that you're not going to be following?
I don't want to do the garter, I don't think (at least not to have it taken off and flung.)
I also don't think i'm going to wait into walking down the aisle to first she my FH. I really want to do an 'At First Sight' photo shoot ahead of time, so that my bridal party also doesn't miss the whole cocktail hour.

I didn't do the garter or bouquet toss, everyone was having such a good time and no one missed it.

Re: Old Traditions
We did the first glance and got 85% of our pictures done before the ceremony.
I didn't do the garter or BOK - I didn't even buy a garter - lol.
Our ceremony was only 5 minutes long - NOT KIDDING! It was great!
We took our pre-ceremony pictures with our wedding bands on - this was the photographer didn't have to work to 'hide our hands' in the pictures 'pre-marriage'.
We did a brunch reception and it was a huge hit.

Re: Old Traditions
I don't think I will have the garter toss.
Also, I will be doing a 'first look' with FH so everyone can enjoy the cocktail hour and the photos don't have to be rushed!

Re: Old Traditions
No garter or BOK toss, no cake cutting and changing up the music for the ceremony

Re: Old Traditions
I will also be doing a 1st view with FH before the ceremony. At 1st I was really against this but with the time of year I'm getting married and since its an evening wedding, we'd get no sun light if we waited until after the wedding. Plus, we don't want to miss CH and have to rush to take all of our pix within that hour. I also don't want to do a receiving line. I feel that will take up too much time. We can greet everyone during CH.

Re: Old Traditions
We've already broken the tradition of the fiance not knowing what the dress looks like. He knows what dress I've gotten. I really really really needed his advice before I bought it and unfortunately broke that surprise, and he need to know color combinations for our wedding. He just doesn't know what it looks like on me.
I don't have a 'something borrowed' yet either. Unsure about the garter throwing as almost all that are going to my wedding are already married or are teens!

Re: Old Traditions
so many people are either in a serious relationship or already married... I think the garter toss is pretty out-dated. IMO

I can totally see that (asking your fiance's advice).

Re: Old Traditions
Not doing the garter/bouquet toss, not having my BP do entrances into the reception, my FH is going to walk in to start the ceremony-escorting by his mother (a Jewish tradition), my FBIL is our officiant, we're having a break in between the ceremony and reception to do pictures, we're not having a formal sit-down dinner, but doing a 'cocktail reception' instead. Hmm...I'm sure there are tons more, since we're pretty non-traditional, but that's all I can think of!

Re: Old Traditions
We're not doing garter toss, bok toss, cake cutting, BP entrance.....we're doing a reveal before the wedding and we're also not having a full sit down dinner - we're having a full cocktail and dessert reception.

Re: Old Traditions
Seems like almost no one does the bouquet toss and garter. We aren't doing it either. And we will see each other before the ceremony :)

Re: Old Traditions
Definitely not doing the garter and bouquet toss.. I honestly can't remember a wedding that had that recently.
We are seeing each other beforehand - there is no other way to do it when you are getting married on site.

Doing all the traditions. What's wrong with it? It's adorable and fun! Plus, no first view. That's just not good luck--sorry. That's just my humble opinion.

Re: Old Traditions
There is no right or wrong...it all depends on what YOU and FH want to do. If it makes you happy, do it...if not, don't bother (no one will care or miss it, trust me!).
I walked down the aisle solo, didn't do a recieving line or bridal party intros or garter, and had a 'mansion-style' buffet stations reception so people could spend less time sitting and more time dancing - and all the guests loved it. I did toss the bouquet at the end, though, just because I wanted to!

Re: Old Traditions
I more than likely wont do the garter and bouquet toss it takes time away from dancing. i will be doing cake cutting tho. and i will see him before the ceremony for the pics. I know some ppl believe this is bad luck but thats not necessarily true. If you look at where all these traditions come from. The reason it was considered bad lucck to see the bride before the wedding 'During the times when arranged marriages were the norm, the couple to be wed is never allowed to see each other. Marriages in the olden times are like business deals between two families. A father especially wants his daughter to be wed to a man from a rich land-owning family, which spells out prosperity and fortune. But if the groom meets the bride before the wedding and sees that she is not attractive, the groom could back out and cancel the wedding. This is something the family of the bride wants to avoid, especially if he wants to secure marrying into a wealthy family. Such is the reason why the bride and groom are only allowed to meet on the wedding ceremony itself. This is so that the groom does not have a chance to back out from the wedding if he happens to find the bride unattractive or unappealing.'
