OMG budget shock! Is this true?

OMG budget shock! Is this true?

Is this statement true? A LIweddings.com rep answered a question about budgets for me.

' for a modest wedding of your size (60-65), unless you plan on hosting it in a church or temple basement or VFW hall, which may run you about $15,000 if kept simple, you are looking at minimum with very few perks about 22,000 to 25,000 and if you want an evening wedding I'd shoot closer to 25,000 to 30,000.'

Is this really what a '09 LI wedding will cost?

I think probably. But your guest list is pretty small, so maybe less.

Its around what it would cost but you can find ways to cut costs and find cheaper RH's ... You have a small guest list which is good and will save you money.

I guess it would depend on your vendors. If you want a band...that's going to run you $7-10K (or more). Then you still need photographer, limos, flowers etc. I budgeted around $25k just for my vendors.

sound about right to me...although if u work REALLY hard with digging for deals, i think for that price u'd be able to have a FEW more guests. my SIL was on a VERY tight budget in '05 and spent right around 20k for a daytime wedding with about 120 guests. that was three years ago so prices have definetly gone up, but i think u can do it ((sigh)) what we spent on our wedding ; could've been a downpayment on a freakin' house & that was on a friday night in december (however i will say i dont regret it one bit )

Just as shocked as I was when I first started researching things. Like the other girls say u can cust costs by really researching and comparing a lot of different vendors. Attend showcases..which is good since you'll be exposed to a lot of different vendors and some offer discounts during these showcases.

But realistically, that price range sounds correct.

Doesn't sound right to me I can have up to 180 and mine is costing like $35k

That sounds right.... but you could always cut some corners to save a little.

IDK. I think it's all dependent on what you spend on catering. I'm spending 20K on catering and that's for 200+ ppl.

I think it sounds okay. I once heard that you are supposed to double what you spend on the hall - and for me that worked out perfectly!

for 150 guests, im spending about 18k so i think that figure may be a fit inflated...

ETA: does that include everything though? or just the hall... if its everything, that may be about right

Yes. That's how much our wedding is for a Saturday night in the off season (April 09) with about 150 guests. And we're not going crazy either. No extras like a custom cake or chocolate fountain, my gown is from David's Bridal, and I'm doing low simple centerpieces and Hershey Kisses for favors.

Sounds about right. But rememebr that just an average. You can cut all sorts of corners depending on the RH, DJ, Photographers, etc.

I'm having aprpoc 100-115 guests and from my estimates I will spend about $20-$25,000 because I am booking early to get good deals & doing my research to see where I can get the most for my buck.

oh please, i am soo not spending that much!! I'm having a Saturday Night Wedding at a nice hall with 80-100 guests and I've managed to keep it under that. What they're saying isn't all that far fetched of course, but I refuse to spend THAT much on my wedding. I'm not taking out loans or anything like that. It's ridiculous in my opinion. You can definitely do it for less if you do a lot of shopping around. I just tried to figure out what was MOST important to me and that's where I spent my money. It doesn't HAVE to be that expensive if you don't want it to be.

That sounds about right for everything. I also negotiated with my hall (we were flexible on date and time) so I got a really good deal there... now we're doing vendors.

Like Opera_Ghost our min is 110.... my RH is about 11k. so I'm thinking 22-25k.

It sounds pretty right on. When you add things that you dont think of like cake topper, gifts for your parents, unity candle and holder etc. The price does go up. I would look into a reception hall that has a package deal. I booked my wedding at Windows on the Lake for 60 a head (granted it is in January) and a package of vendors for $8000. The package includes: Invitations, Limo, Photographer, Videographer, Flowers, DJ, I think thats it am I missing anything?? The RH includes the cake. IF you stick with their vendor's packages your price will not raise and what is included is actually very generous. Also I have found do it yourself items. Some things you can really make way cheaper than if you just bought it someplace else. Let me know if you have any other questions. A wedding can be done on a budget, but there are also things you may want that you still have to add on just dont forget that...

It totally depends. Shop around...you will find places for cheaper than that...and nice places.

I can see how it could get that expensive if you're not really shopping around, comparing prices, negotiating deals, etc. For me personally, i could never spend that much on just one day, even if it is my wedding day....but everyone's got different priorities. There are always ways to cut corners, especially if you go with places that offer package deals or really only put your money into the things that matter most to you. I'm hoping to stay under 20k (fingers are crossed)
