soooo yesterday i had an interview for a 3rd grade teaching position and i thought it went really well but i didnt get my hopes up bc its soo hard and competitive to get a job on long island
anyways, this morning i got a phonecall that im going to the superintendent tomorrow morning!!!!!!!!!!! ive never gotten that far on an interview and im beyond excited but i still dont want to get my hopes way up yet.
so questions for u girls- if u make it to the superintendent do u basically have the job? is it a full interview? or is it basically just talking about the position and signing papers?
please tell me your experiences cause i dont want to get my hopes up and be stuck teaching in brooklyn another year!
btw- how do i tell my current principal if i got the job???

Sooo i thought the interview went REALLY well with the superintendent...they even told me to call my principal and give her a heads up that they will be calling
but.... the principal of the school i interviewed at just called me to tell me that i didnt get it! I swear it must have been the lady that was right after me..bc they certainly made me feel like i had the job during the interview
but the principal called and said that she really liked me and i was her choice and bc of politics and whatever else the superintendent chose someone else..but she said that she was truely dazaled by my interview and that she will keep my name fresh in her mind if anything else opens up and she will send my resume over to a few places thats she knows..but now im really upset uhhhh i knew i shouldnt have gotten my hopes up..so anyways i could use a few hugs!

I’m not a teacher so I have no clue how this works but CONGRATS!
Personally, I feel like if you’re meeting with the big head honcho, you’re at the very least one of two who they are seriously considering…I doubt the superintendent wants to/has time to meet many applicants!

i wish i could give you a def answer.
I've mostly heard stories of people meeting with Sup. , having another formal interview and then later hearing they got it or not. But i wouldnt say that going in and getting the job couldnt happen!
no matter what... its def a good thing, so dont stress, just go in their and be confindent !!
WHEN they offer you the job , i would just call your principal and explain that you were offered a position in LI, and that you have accepted it. (You may not need to go into detail) And of course thank your principal for the opportunity to teach in his/her school and maybe about something liek growing as a teacher..
forgot to say GL but you wont need it!!

thanks girls!!!!! i know a lot of teachers and anytime they went to the superintendent they got the job...but im wondering if that happens to everyone..cause ive always thought that its u and another candidate for the job and i mean they only pick one right? tho EVERYONE that ive known to go to the superintendent has gotten the job

I'm not sure about the whole meeting with the superintendent thing..... when I met with her, I had already been given the job.
However, it definitely means that they like you, and you are either their top (only) candidate, or one of very few.

Good luck...you won't need it tho! Just be yourself and I'm sure they'll love you. I'm a very hyper person and the best advice someone gave me when I went for an interview was just be natural. Don't try to hold 'the real you' back!!!

It really depends on the district. They call anywhere between 2 and 6 people to meet with the superindendent. I wouldn't expect to be signing papers, you should be ready for a full interview, but it's a definitly a good thing to be this far along. Most times you have to do a demo lesson, but since it's summer and so close to school starting you may get out of that one. I really think you have a VERY good chance here. Good luck!
