soooo yesterday i had an interview for a 3rd grade teaching position and i thought it went really well but i didnt get my hopes up bc its soo hard and competitive to get a job on long island
anyways, this morning i got a phonecall that im going to the superintendent tomorrow morning!!!!!!!!!!! ive never gotten that far on an interview and im beyond excited but i still dont want to get my hopes way up yet.
so questions for u girls- if u make it to the superintendent do u basically have the job? is it a full interview? or is it basically just talking about the position and signing papers?
please tell me your experiences cause i dont want to get my hopes up and be stuck teaching in brooklyn another year!
btw- how do i tell my current principal if i got the job???

Sooo i thought the interview went REALLY well with the superintendent...they even told me to call my principal and give her a heads up that they will be calling
but.... the principal of the school i interviewed at just called me to tell me that i didnt get it! I swear it must have been the lady that was right after me..bc they certainly made me feel like i had the job during the interview
but the principal called and said that she really liked me and i was her choice and bc of politics and whatever else the superintendent chose someone else..but she said that she was truely dazaled by my interview and that she will keep my name fresh in her mind if anything else opens up and she will send my resume over to a few places thats she knows..but now im really upset uhhhh i knew i shouldnt have gotten my hopes up..so anyways i could use a few hugs!

They usually give the superintendent a heads up as to who they want. I think schools usually send 2/3 people to the superintendent. I've heard it's a quick couple of questions but then I have heard it's a full blown interview with all of the candidates in one room. I guess it depends on the school. You'll just have to wait and see. Whatever it is, it's a great sign that you made it that far. be yourself, know some facts about the school so they know you did your research and have a couple questions to ask. Oh and bring some past student projects that you can show. You want to stand out!! good luck!!!!

I'm not sure how the interview process in LI works but it sounds very promising.
As for telling your principal....I would do it as soon as you get hired. So many principals are scrambling to fill vacancies now. You don't want to leave yours hanging.

Good Luck!!! Im not sure about the superintendent thing since I have heard of people having to go to more interviews afterwards, but some got it on the spot. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. I hope you get it!!!! What district is it for?

sometimes it means its done deal but it depends on the district where do u work now? just tell your admin. ASAP

it depends on the district but going to see the super is def a great sign. it means that either u are the building levels choice, or u are one of the building levels choices.. either way it's another chance to go in tlak bout how great you are and wow them..
as for u'r brooklyn principal, i'd suggest not quitting but taking a leave of abscence.. u can get one for a year wit little questioning.. (unpaid of course) plus it gives u the benefit of if something goes wrong in w.hempstead.. (budget fails next year and they have to lay teachers off... u hate it to h*ll and don't wanna be there) u can go back into the city system without losing u'r seniority..
that's how i left the cty and i am SO glad i did, i left right before the city teachers got that last contrat and since i was on leave i got the retroactive.. teachers who resigned didn't get it!!

thanks so much!! ive heard that it is what i should do (take a leave) FH did the same thing but he was close to the secretary in his school so he did it through her...how do i go about taking a leave? do i tell my principal that i found another job but i want to take a leave?

lol well i wasnt going to tell her i wanted to see what job i liked better haha but i heard most schools if u are going to get hired, call ur current principal as a reference so i cant really lie and tell her its personal cause shell know im getting a job somewhere
