OMG!! Need help ASAP to get a BRA...The place I wanted to go to is being difficult!!!

OMG!!! I just called Mary's Corsetiere, b/c I wanted to find out their hours b/c I need to get a bra before I go to my first fitting. Fine. Well, the girl on the phone was kind enough to give me their hours for the days I asked (tomorrow and Fri) and also told me they shortened their hours for Sat and I said 'Obviously you're closed Sunday' and she said yes. I explained that I need to get a bra for my wedding and she said 'Oh', in a surprised manor, as if I just said my wedding was next week. I asked her what the average time is to get fitted, she said it depends on how many people are ahead of me. Fine. She then says that I just need to bring my dress in. HELLO!?!? Bring my DRESS IN!! I explained that I haven't even had any fittings, haven't finished paying for it and I'm not really comfortable bringing my dress there and back to the bridal shop. She said, 'well we can't guarantee it'll fit right under your dress. Everybody does it. I did it' I explain that I will not be able to do that. She then said 'well just bring pictures and they'll do the best they can' I then asked her if I came there in 20 minutes, how long would it be. She said 'I can't guarantee how long the wait will be, I don't know who'll be here' This has REALLY turned me off from going there. And it makes me mad b/c not only have I heard great things from this site, but my dress shop recommended them too! AND they are like 10 min from my job!! UGH!! I REALLY needed to get a bra sometime between today and Saturday, as my first fitting is on MONDAY!! What's a girl to do!!

In all honesty, I got my bra from the Maidenform Outlet (my favorite place!). It was a longline corset strapless bra and it was perfect, I think I spend about 15 bucks on it.

Unless you are planning on getting a waist-slimming corset, you can really get a bra anywhere, I think we really try to drive ourselves crazy sometimes!!!

Just called Georgettes, NIGHT AND DAY! They lady was helpful, said NOTHIG about having to bring my dress. Guess where I'll be going tonight!

Thanks ladies...I was just SO frustrated about the Mary's call!

Georgette's is AWESOME! And HONEST, too! (from what I remember from a few years ago). I'll definitely go back to her for my wedding undergarments.

i'm not sure if you can make it into the city but there's a place called orchard corset discount... on orchard off rivington. i got mine there $40!

They were great for me. I went a couple of weeks before my wedding...

and NO I did not bring in my dress, I did have a picture though. I think the person you spoke to was in their own world. Many brides go there and do not bring their gown.

Anyway...I like you am larger up top and cannot buy any bra off the rack. What I like about them is they alter the bra to your body. It was a definite plus for me. I also happened to buy a bathing suit while I was there and they altered that too.

It's worth going...not all are like that.

Be careful! I had a big problem with them. I went through the same thing about how I couldn't bring the dress and I brought pics of me in the dress. After waiting 2 hours to get helped, i expressed concern that I didn't think the bra was low enough int he back and I was gonna pay for this and not be able to use it. She said don't worry, if it doesn't fit, we'll fix it. Sure enough, it was too high int he back. When I brought it back, they wanted $55 to fix. The bra only cost $50!!!!! I was upset with them and they were nasty to me and the one woman even said I had gained weight and that was why it didn't fit right. I had actually lost like 3 lbs, and I'm not that big to begin with! Wound up getting one that fit even better from Phyllis Limmer at my next dress fitting for only like $25.

ETA: Have been to Georgettes since my wedding and liked them much more and she told me the ladies at Mary's had me in the wrong bra size. She was right and I've been much more comfortable since.

Lol I am 46DDD but if you drop a cup you can be a 39 or 40DD in a busiter thats what I am doing getting a 48DD

Georgette's is the best place ever...they are amazing there I get my regular bras there because no one can seem to size me right definately go there.

I went to Mary's twice so I can explain a bit about the 'process.' When you get in, you sign in and you wait until someone can help you. There are dressing rooms off to the side. I was there twice and both times I had to wait 1/2 hour or so.

The place isn't a typical 'wedding' bra place - it's more for women who have had certain surgeries that require specific undergarments (FM me if you don't understand). I bought a bra from them and ended up returning it and using the store credit to buy some coverups/underwear for my cruise.

They do try to push you to bring your dress in because they say they can't make sure it'll look right under your dress. I had a huge problem because my dress had a cut open back. But apparently they say a lot of girls bring it in. I didn't do this. But they will alter your bra, which is a big help.

I ended up getting my bra at a shop on Merrick Road --- Lillette's recommended them and I'll search for the name. The bra was great.

My bra was from Mary's. I had no problems but I would not have brought my dress there. The floor isn't the cleanest and I could not picture bringing my dress and trying it on in there. They didn't ask me to bring the dress, though.

I had also tried Georgettes. I would not have wanted to bring my dress there either (same reason). The lady there told me that I really needed a D cup, even for my everyday bra. No way! I am a B and there is no mistaking me for a D. I don't have much on top at all and when I look back I should have gone braless! I think she was all out of my size but still wanted me to buy something. And I recently tried on some C cup bras just to see if this lady could be right--they puckered up on the sides and there was soo much excess material! So a D was not going to ever work! The lady had to be on crack to tell me to get a D cup!

I'd recommend Mary's but don't bring your dress!
