Wow, that's nuts! I don't think that if anyone wants to have their reception at a hall that it costs under $20,000 JUST FOR THE HALL! That's based on 200 guests at 100 dollars a head...we all know that there aren't many places that are under 100 a head and from what I read, we all seem to have AT LEAST 200 guests (some have a little less, but we haven't finalized our lists yet)!!! Weddings really are crazy. FH cracked me up when he said at first, 'So what's our wedding budget, $20,000.' I seriously laughed at him lol He can be so silly sometimes.
I don't think my $20,000 budget is silly at all. I am having my reception at a gorgeous hall and still have money left for a band and a great photographer as well as a gown and limos.
I meant silly because he thought that that would cover every single wedding and honeymoon related thing. There's no way that with over 200 guests it can be done, during the summer, on a Saturday! I know many people do it...but during off seasons, with a lot less guests, possibly weekdays and whatever. He was just clueless about wedding costs.
I'm sorry... but yes it can be done. I know people who have done it, and people who will be doing it this year and next, and yes they are all from long island. I suppose it'd be more like $25,000 if you include honeymoon for them but still... it's doable.
i know what you mean about him being silly for not knowing what a wedding costs though.

Yeh, defintely. I mean, I told him that even if we got $75.00 a head....@200 guests that's already $15,000. The RH fees are ridiculous! If they were cheaper, think of how we could all splurge on other things

SERIOUSLY!! although.... i think the only thing i'd really splurge on would be the cake. as of right now i cant see spending another couple of hundred dollars on a cake when our RH includes a nice one in the package.
oooo day of jewelry. that's what i'd splurge on.

Re: OMG!!!!!!! talk about an expensive wedding.......
I have been to 2 weddings that cost over 100,000 each. Let me tell you. . .they were not that great. You basically pay for the name of the place. One wedding was at the Roosevelt hotel and the other was last Sept. at Cipriani's on Wallstreet. My cousin likes to flash his money so he chose to have it there. He paid $450 a dish and had about 200 people. The food was horrible and the cocktail hour had no tables or seats for anybody to sit. Sometimes I think you get less food when the place is so expensive.

expensive places you do get less food, but that can be a good thing at times bc the less food a place cooks the better it usually comes out lol but its not always the case. I really liked Gotham Hall and also capitale but we never even went to go look bc by looking at menu's its not things our families and friends eat, and for capitale it was so weird bc most of their entree choices for fish. Also Fh completely knocked off gotham hall bc he said he is not getting married somewhere he went clubbing at, its not a club but for NYE they turned it into one

Re: OMG!!!!!!! talk about an expensive wedding.......
I wanted to post this but didnt want to get an bride depressed.
These people have money thrown at them. I Was watching Platinum wedding Sunday. This couple got married Indian style and then a reception.
Freaking centerpeices cost $ 1200 per table AND food alone was like $20,000. .
Some of us are spending $20,00 for OUR ENTIRE WEDDING!!
I mean dont get me wrong I know every bride on here would want a dream wedding like that IF we had the money, but we dont

That's how it is for FH and I. Not only are we not getting ANY help for our wedding, but we are new homeowners and are renovating! Our plan, which has been working so far [knock on wood] is to pay off AS MUCH as we can up front. The vendors are shocked I want to pay most or all of my bill up front. It's the best to pay when you have it.
