ooooooooommmmmmmmgggggggggg! (my mice problem)

I thought our mice were gone since I hadn't seen any in days. So this morning not 10 minutes ago I went into the kitchen to get some thing to eat and I saw one of the glue traps that was underneath the oven was sticking out a bit. I am so stupid...you'd think why I would wonder why....but I didn't and I pulled the trap out completely with my big toe - it only touched the lip of the trap not the glue part. There was something on them...I couldn't tell so I bent down...and why I didn't wonder what it was...

TWO MICE WERE ON THE GLUE PAD AND ONE WAS STILL STRUGGLING TO GET FREE!!!!!!!!!!!

my toe touched one of them I think!!!!!!!!

I screamed of course...DH went in with a golf club ( ) and then he came out and said both were dead and he threw them out outside.

I'm freaking out still...still shaking....I was
THISCLOSE to the mice when I bent down (didn't have glasses on) and I don't know why I didn't expect to see them....holy crap my heart is still racing.

EWWWWWWWWWWW!

Well at least we got two of them. And on the same trap! I hope that there are no more!!

I'm glad you caught the mice, but I really don't understand how you and DH can sleep at night after clubbing innocent animals to death.

Then again, I don't think I'd sleep so well with mice in the house either, but there's gotta be a more humane way.

Re: ooooooooommmmmmmmgggggggggg! (my mice problem)

Mary Im sorry I would have freaked. I wouldnt go into the bathroom cause there was a dead cricket that I saw for a matter of 2 seconds. If there was a mouse up against my face I probably would have fainted.

Re: ooooooooommmmmmmmgggggggggg! (my mice problem)

EEW!! Hey think of it this way, they were more affraid of you then you were of them!!
I remember years ago when I was living at home we had a mouse. My mom, my brother and I ran around after it for hours. I swear it was like and SNL skit, if somebody were watching us through the window they had a good laugh. We were up on chairs, couches, tables, running around with peanut jars trying to catch it and when we finally caught it in the jar, we all started talking to it and didn't want to kill it. So we actually got in the car with this jarred mouse at 2 in the morning and drove up to Eisenhower park and let it go!!

To put it out of it's misery WAS humane!!! They stick to the glue traps & it rips their fur & skin off. (Sorry Marribelle but, thats what those traps do..I hate them)

Best thing to get is the soound wave ones that you can pick up at Home Depot. You plug it in, they put out sound waves that freak out the mice & they stay away. We had a mouse in my old house & that took care of it. We never saw another one again.

Hmm I've caught many a mouse in a glue trap but never came back to a empty trap with just fur and skin in it You must have some very strong mice!

Either they get stuck and die, or get out (with their hides).

I suppose the snap spring traps are the most humane, they break their neck right away, but I don't want to touch either.

Good job on catching them. But damm you had TWO mice? If you see another... you better get a professional exterminator in there.

Thats the sign of a serious problem.

Re: ooooooooommmmmmmmgggggggggg! (my mice problem)

I would not even wait ... call an exterminator. My sister had this in her detached garage after she moved in, and the exterminator did something to get rid of them.... she never saw Mickey or Minnie again. Good luck... I would have freaked out. and washed my Foot a lot!!!!!!

Marymoon,
I don't live in an area where we can just 'let them go free' - I live in the Bronx and if they go free they'll just go and be someone else's problem, maybe even ours again. We don't live in a rural area where they can go free in a field somewher.

Plus 1 was already dead and the other one was just about dead. Plus I find it more inhumane to throw it away while it's still alive. They were also on glue traps. If they were in one of those boxes where they are still alive but caught, that would be a different story.

ETA: actually it would not be a different story. The mice may carry diseases. I would not be able to sleep at night if the little 3 month old across the hallway got sick because we let our mice go and then he got sick because the mouse somehow got into their apartment.

Yes I know but we double our super/landlord will give a rat's @ss (or mice's @ss as the case can be).

But I will mention it to them considering our neighbor's caught 2 a few weeks ago themselves. Maybe knowing it's not just 1 apartment will make them take action.

Tracy we have had the ultrasonic things for over a week. Either they dont' work or they take a little bit to work. We have two, one in the living room and one in the kitchen. Plus apparently there is a big mouse problem in our area since when Clive went to Home Depot 3 days after we first went to get the ultrasonic things, ALL the traps (snap ones, glue ones, poison, boxes, you name it) were gone. They had a full stock 3 days before that.

When he went to the local Benjamin Moore hardware store all they had were glue traps.

I'm sorry but I'm not going ot say 'oh just glue traps? Well then let them be' because to me, other than being scared of them, mice are dirty and carry diseases. I'm not thrilled about the glue traps either but I'm NOT going to let them run around here because we can't find other traps. Sorry.

Mary I am soooo sorry!!!! I lived in Ridgewood growing up and we had 17 mice throughout the years!!!

If I ever see a mouse where I live now I will have a complete head of white hair!

If you have one more, its time to contact the landlord. Good luck!!!!

Re: ooooooooommmmmmmmgggggggggg! (my mice problem)

If you stuff up all cracks with coarse steel (buy @ hardware store)wool- insert with a screwdriver you will never see another one again.

We used to live in a really old apartment buliding above some stores and when I moved in I saw 1- freaked - did this and never saw another!

Just leave the glue trap with the attached mouse in front of your landlord's door.

Re: ooooooooommmmmmmmgggggggggg! (my mice problem)

Maribelle:

RE: Landlord
Don't even bother telling the super unless its in passing and just to let him know. But I wouldn't just count on them to contact the landlord...Call the landlord yourself and let him know there is a problem. My boss owns a small apt building in Woodlawn and when I got the call that the tenants had spotted a mouse and some water bugs that were coming up from the basement he gave me the green light to get an exterminator in right away. We got a service contract and now they come every month for maintenance. Though in the past year, no one has seen any critters.
We use Suburban Pest Control, they've been very good and a reasonable rate.

This time of year is really rough because all the little critters are scrambling for a warm place with plenty of food to set up shop for the winter... let 'em know that you apt has no vacancy!!!

Steel Wool:
I second this. Plug up whatever crevices you can find, they can get through holes the size of a quarter (or smaller i think) they cannot and do not like chewing on the steel wool.

Dude I like that idea. Unfortunately,
we tossed the trap w/ the mice out already.

Plus I don't want to scare the super's wife, who I happen to like.

But I do like that idea.
