Open Bar at Reception??

Open Bar at Reception??

I am thinking about not having an open bar at my reception.

Beer/Wine/Soda/Juice/Champagne punch only.

Anything else would be cash.

I would run a tab for the bridal party (for whatever they & dates want).

Would you be outraged? Spend the entire car ride home talking about how cheap we are?

Opinions??

Open bar no doubt!!!!!

If you are strapped for cash then have a cash bar but I would slightly ehhh if I went to a wedding and I had to pay for my drinks.

I would say beer, wine and soda is fine but a lot of people will disagree. I have been to weddings that had just beer wine and soda and sadly to say a lot of people b***ch about it for a while.. I was faced with the same choice and i went with open bar to avoid anymore agruements. Good luck..

Open bar. When I was planning, I asked my close family members for opinions. I was expecting them to tell me to skip the open bar because none of us are really drinkers. But, to my surprise, they told me that I should have the open bar, no matter how many other things I had to sacrifice...

Dont most halls have open bar included? IMO open bar is definitly the way to go.. I can see the looks on our family's faces when they found out it was a cash bar

Absolutely an open bar. Personally, I wouldn't feel right to expect people to pay for things at my wedding and then expect them to give me a gift on top of that.

If i couldn't do an open bar then I would just do beer/wine/soda and not even offer anything else.

Of course just my opinion though : ).

on long island open bar has become a standard, so i think many guests would be a little shocked....just my opinion

Open bar is IMO a definite....but if you think paying extra is adding on a lot and a lot of your people aren't big liquor dirnkers maybe you should pay by the drink..figure out what kind of difference it would be.

I really think for a wedding like others said open bar is the way to go.
Maybe you can cut something else out to ofset the expense.
I am not a huge drinker myself, but I am sure people would expect it.

I know its all overwhelming sometimes

are your friends and family big drinkers? if they arent why dont you try to figure out if it would be cheaper to just run a tab and you cover it at the end of the night. OR have open bar after or before dinner only?

shame isnt it?

Yeah Id agree open bar is the way to go.. but that's because of where we are.

I've been to weddings where the guest were told ahead of time that the place only provided is the 'mixers' which is just like juice, coke, other non-alcoholic type things to MIX with alcohol but it was pretty much BYOB (yes a wedding) and no one cared. Beer and wine were offered and even THAT was cash and most drank that.

Personally i think it is a shock anywhere....I say open bar and i think that the fact that open bar is a standard is a included luxury rather than a nuisance!

I definitely think you should have an open bar, if it is in your budget.

my stepbrother got married in albany and they had just beer and wine and all the long island guests talked about it all night long lol. my stepfather was actually buying the drinks fo rhis friends because he didnt feel it was right. i think if you can afford it you should do it. maybe they will lower the price if it isnt top shelf or something.
