but for fh since the days get banked, he doesnt use them unless he needs them,
if they werent banked, then he would make sure to use them up for the year..

If you can't bank them...take them.

Here's what I do with my employees...we get @17 days per year (10 vacation, 5 sick, 2 personal). I only have 1 person that gets 15 vacation days because she has been there for 5 years. Anyway...some of them, use them all...because they call in sick alot. I have 2 people plus myself...who never use sick days. I tell them...to take them as vacation or personal days. To me...I don't think it's fair to these employees that they don't get to take as much time off as the other people (who use all their sick days). So...I encourage them to take them. I like for them to be scheduled though...so usually we sit down and decide which days they want to take. Because we had so many untaken days...I had off every Friday from October until New Year's of 2003...someone else had Tuesday's and another had Thursday's.

HR does not share my point of view...so I just don't let them know :) My boss is ok with how I work my department...as long as we are covered.

My family always instilled in my the idea that taking the days off makes you look bad, but we are all teachers, and I think that it's a different situation when you are a teacher. It all depends on tenure and blahbutty blah blah
