I'm only responding here because my brother in law died in the WTC. Question here is did the parents suffer any financial loss? If so then they should be compensated. If not then (well I'll keep my opinion to myself).

Well no financial loss in the fact that he was not supporting them or contributing to their income.
I'm very very sorry about your brother-in-law
Thank You!
If the parents didn't have a finacial loss then as wacky stated they should move on. I know many will not agree with with my opinion but it is my opinion and one from someone who knows first hand.

Re: Opinion about WTC widow and money
The compensation is to 'make up' for the part of the income that family lost with the deth of one of the family members. Parents have nothing to do with it since they weren't being supported by this man. It's kind of disturbing that they are even fighting this battle!
So, so sorry about your BIL!

I agree. This is such a tough subject...but the parents did not suffer financial loss or economic hardship.

The poor girl deserves some happiness.
I can't even imagine what she must of went through. How does your DH feel about her getting married. I think this happens a lot when a persons spouse dies tragically. The parents should move on. I'm sure that's what their son would have wanted.

Money does horrible things to people. I have seen it drive close families apart- so sad.

Posted by merf99 I am so proud of DH - even though he was much closer with the husband, he constantly called to check up on his wife, see if she needed anything, called just to say hi, etc.... He always says that if gd forbid something ever happened to him, he would hope that his friends would do the same.
That's really nice of your DH!

I agree. If they did not suffer a financial loss, they have no right to the money. We all know what happened was a horrible and painful event for everyone involved, but if I lost a child (God forbid!) I'm not going to get any money for it. The money doesn't undo what has happened. They should try to move on and leave this woman alone. She's already been through enough losing her husband so young. And she wasn't obligated to give them any of her money and she chose to do so anyway. IMHO I don't think they're treating her fairly, or honoring their son's memory by putting his widow through this.

Re: Opinion about WTC widow and money
what a horrible thing to fight over, i think it was nice that she gave them some of the money, but she is the one who married him, and was planning to spend the rest of her life with him, as my fh would say no amount of money could compensate for that loss, she deserves to keep it.....

Re: Opinion about WTC widow and money
Wow, what a bunch of selfish sheeits...
They got some money. Why be greedy? Sounds like something my inlaws would pull. Nice to know their son's life had a pricetag attached to it. And the poor girl, I'm sure it was not easy for her to move on and I commend her for being strong enough to carry on. She didn't marry him thinking there was going to be a fat payout at some point. That was probably her first and only true, true love.
Ron, I'm so sorry about your BIL.
