I'm completing my registry and am not sure whether or not I want to register for fine china. I'm hoping for some opinions. Here's what I'm thinking: On one hand, I think I should not register for china because it is so expensive and if people get me china my FH and I are more likely than not going to have to purchase many of the other things on our own. In addition, I'm not sure how much I will use the china. On the other hand, I think registering for china now would be a smart idea because this is really the only time in my life I can ask for china and get it. Plus, it would be nice to have a beautiful set of plates (I love Opal Innocence). What did you decide to do and why?

i put china on our registry, if someone got it then great and if not thats fine too. Like you said, its one time to ask for it and get it.

I like to entertain so I definitely wanted to register for it. There are plenty of girls on here that didn't find it worthwhile. If you think you'll use it, then go for it

I will not be registering for it... I would just like a nice set of everyday dishes that is presentable enough for company too

We didnt register for china. We couldnt imagine us ever using it, for us it would have been a waste. We registered for a very nice set of dishes to use instead when we have company

Not registering for china. We don't have any place to put it and feel we would never really use it. Rather put the money toward something else.

We registered for China knowing that we may use it only once a year. We knew that this was something that we wouldn't want to purchase on our own. But, so far 8 out of the 12 place setting's have been purchased.

You might use it more
in my house my mom used our china all the time, even everyday plates were china just a different pattern with a silver rim. So you can get alot of use out of it

I'm not much of a cook or entertainer (in the future, holidays will most likely be at my sisters house since shes like a susie homemaker lol) so i feel like i will have no use for it. I rather have the money be spent on other things i will need.

I go through the same debate in my head. Nice to have, but prolly will never use BUT will never buy for myself. Hmm... I am thinking I will register for China because we don't really need a lot of other stuff - we already live together in a house.

I registered for it. It's nice to have, but if you know you won't use it at all....don't register for it.

IT DEPENDS ON YOUR ENTERTAINING STYLE..I AM A DOMESTIC LOONEY BIRD AND LOVE ALL THINGS CHINA AND CRYSTAL..THERE IS NO EVENT TO SMALL OR CASUAL FOR FANCY DISHES AND STEMWARE IN MY EYES..
IF I WAS NOT I WOULD PROBABLY SKIP IT..

I think of it this way...if I don't regisiter for it, most likely I won't buy it for myself. SO, Yes - now is the time

we registered for some i figure the 'kids' of the family are starting to take over having the holidays so we would need some nicer dishes. Even if only for the holiday use i figure they would be worth it.

I didnt register for china, as of right now we stand to gain 3 sets of china AND you will rarely use it. Its up to you however. I thinks its a personal choice. We registered for everyday dishes and a nicer set for holidays etc. so we really didnt need the china

Re: Opinions: to register for fine china or not?
I am debating whether to get china, too. Right now, FH and I live in a small co-op. The most we would ever have over to entertain is 6. The most we would have over for dinner is 4. There just isn't room. We don't plan to buy a house till probably a year after we get married. So, I feel like registering is a waste. They are just going to collect dust in one of our parents basements till we get a house...and then what happens if the pattern gets discontinued before you get your complete set? We have a set of everyday dishes, bowls, coffee cup and saucer, sugar, creamer, etc...that are white with a very thin, dark blue rim, which I think is fine for entertaining.
I say to register for a really nice set of everyday dishes. Unless you are 100% certain that you are going to entertain a lot.

I fell in love with opal innocence but trying to be practical I took it off my registry. My MOH and her mother bought it for me anyway. I love it and I'm so glad they did!

Re: Opinions: to register for fine china or not?
This is really the only time we'd ever get it since we would most likely never buy it for ourselves. We had an engagement party and already have our 12 place settings. We just need to get all the extras. I think its something that people like to buy because it lasts and isn't like sheets or towels that will eventually get used and thrown out. So I think if you want it (and think you'll use it in the future) definitely register for it, people will buy it for you.

I registered for china - mine was not crazy expensive so I got it all (16 pcs). I love to entertain and have parties so I wanted it. My sister who never throws things didnt. She felt it was a waste. It really is your own liking....
