ortho-tri cyclen question

Just wondering, did this pill make you gain quite a few pounds. I have been on the pill for quite a while now. I have been on different brands, but as of last year I switched to Ortho after hearing that it is supposed to be the best. I have put on about 10 pounds.

Please let me know.

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

I was on ortho tri cyclen and I gained about 10lbs in one month!! WITHOUT changing my eating habits. Plus, I had the worst PMS. And my period would last 7 days! Needless to say, I told my doctor to switch me right away. Now I'm Loestrin Fe and couldn't be happier. I have lost all the weight and then some (again without changing my eating habits) and have no PMS.

Good Luck!

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

I'm on Mircette, and I haven't gained any weight. I was very teary in the beginning but its leveled off. My period is only about 4 days, and less cramping. I'm pretty happy with it so far. I had problems with one of the Tri cyclen formulas, made me cry everyday so thats why i switched.

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

I gained weight on orto-tricyclen, and my legs would fall asleep all the time. Not to mention my homicidal-like PMS symptoms. I swiched to Mircette, have been v. happy with it. All symptoms are much better.

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

No problems here and no weight gain. It totally depends on the person. I just would get sick when I double up.

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

I've been on ortho-tri cyclen for a while without any problems. You can set your watch by when I get my period - I love that! Four days and over!! I also get a little nauseous if I skip a day and have to double up.

Good Luck!!!

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

Has anyone have their period shift over time by a day. Over the past year, mine moved from starting on tuesday to starting on wednesday, a few hrs each month. Anyone with something like that?

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

Alina: yeah it happens after February. Since Feb only has 28 days, sometimes 29, it shifts a day for me once March comes.

Oh and I also took Mircette and I was an emotional wreck. I would cry for no reason and be down all the time. Not every pill works for everyone. It depends on your body. So you may need to try a few pills before you find the one for you.

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

I also had trouble w/ ortho-tricyclen. I gained a few pounds, was moody and had no libido whatsoever! I am now on Lo-Estrin and am very happy with it.

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

I'm on Loestrin Fe and haven't gained a pound on it. I actually asked for this one bc 2 of my friend are on it and didn't gain weight.

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

I'm on ortho-tri cyclen, and while I haven't gained a pound, I have gotten pimples more often. I used to have perfectly clear skin, and now, I'm always getting these little pimples, it makes me want to scream! I thought this pill was supposed to make your skin clear? Oh well, so much for trying to fix something that wasn't broken to begin with.

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

I'm thinking of changing pills... I've gained about 10lbs. which brings me up to 110 (which I'm not too concerned about)... but, I'm moody and most times have no libido (sp?) which is a problem for my fi. lol
Do you think I should talk to my gyno about this?

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

Wishcandy: Yeah you should talk to your doctor. However, I think decrease of libido is something that's common when taking BCP. I know I've noticed a decrease. I'm better than when I was on Ortho, but it's not back 100%. Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

Marcela, I'm with you, definite decreased libido and it's definitely linked to being on BCP. I just got switched to Yasmin from Estrostep but haven't started taking it yet so I can't report. Estrostep was bad IMO, unpredictable periods, my skin was much worse....I'm hoping Yasmin will be good.
Ortho tri didn't help my skin either. The only pill that really helped my skin was desogen and that's the one that caused blood clots and my doctor took me off it.

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

Desogen was the first BCP I was ever on. I've heard bad things about estrostep. A couple of my friends were on it and they had their periods for months. It just wouldn't go away!

Re: ortho-tri cyclen question

Ortho-tricyclen also made me break out more around my period too, now that i'm on Loestrin-FE my skin barely ever see's a zit! Also, my friend is on Yasmin and says it's great. It has also helped her libido too.
